Well I acquired the this notebook from selling my old MBP 13 2010 model for 1k and saw this gem for only $997 with free shipping from newegg:
G74SX-BBK7
17.3 900p
I7 2630
1TB ( 2x500GB)
8GB DDR3 1333 (2x4GB) 4x DIMM
GTX 560m 2GB
WIMAX
DVD burner
Ran a bunch of benchmarks & scored 3d vantage of P8700 stockclocks and everything runs smooth with no crashes or glitches,
the only issue is right after the window splash loading screen, the screen quickly changes to a solid color green or red and then initialized windows desktop, am wondering if any other G74 users experience this?

Could be the nVidia driver, which version are you using?
-
Using the latest 285.62 drivers from the NV website, upon further investigation this color issue seems to occur only during boot up from a full system shut down, but if the system wakes from sleep this issue doesn't occur.

I have the same problem and I'm using the same driver. It has to be a driver problem cuz i didn't have this problem when i used the other drivers. I ignore it though. Didn't install the latest driver as yet. And i get the green screen when i wake the laptop from sleep too.

I have a very similar problem on my G74SX-XC1 - but with the 560M 3GB version. I don't get screen of varying colors, but I get randomly moving green pixels in the beginning, followed by a brief (~2 seconds) black screen, and then Windows telling me the the "Nvidia display mode kernel has failed but it was able to recover". It only happens when I either start up or wake up from sleep and it happens from the stock driver or the latest nVidia drivers.
I think it's a driver bug somewhere...either chipset or VGA. -
yeah im using the same driver and I get a red screen right before the window splash logo
-
Wait for next driver release from nVidia. I also have customers report 285.62 issues with MSI GTX570M.
-
It is a driver issue. Only difference being I'm getting a green screen instead of red
true nvidia style

I'm not sure if nVidia will ever get around to fixing this because the 560M has been out for over half a year already. This isn't really a defect - it's only transient. But it is annoying and at first I thought I had a substantial amount of stuck pixels.
