I bought a G75VW-DS71
It arrived with a half-closed case, very loose screen bezel (plastic moulded incorrectly), broken sound, totally broken video and no backlight
In other words completely useless
Spoke to Asus support who were very familiar with this problem ... I was not the first ...
It seems that a bad batch was fixed by hand and then sent straight to distribution with no testing ...
Other rumours include G75 production temporarily ceased due to quality issues.
On the ROG forums every second or third posting is a serious problem, some examples:
660m gpu usage and framerate fluctuations
ROG G75V - 660M does not spool up
Ok seriously, what is the double beep!
My new G75V and it's speed
Would like some opinions, not sure if keeping G75
On my 3rd G75![]()
Asus G75 network adapter problem; can't connect to wifi.
Asus G75VW - Black screen on boot up
Horizontal lines/choppyness
Live update killed my USB ports
Network adapter gets disabled when using HDMI port
Asus G55VW-DS71 Faulty or Fine?
G75 GPU going to hot - Fan not working
Red lines across the screen, now the G75 is dead
G75VW Best Buy freeze up issues
ASUS G75 no longer in production?
And here is a typical experience (from another forum user)
On my 3rd G75![]()
Well so far this is my 3rd G75.....The first one the border around the screen was completely popped off, the 2nd G75 the subwoofer seemed like it was blown. Now im on my 3rd G75 and yesterday when i opened it the bottom panel to get to the internals was screwed in but half of it was popped off and im missing one of the rubber piece on the bottom......... Awesome QA Asus lol. I called asus to see if they would ship me ONE rubber piece just so i can put it on and thats it, but they told me that i would have to send in the entire computer.....So the guy gave me a website us.estore.asus.com which does not have the part, so that was a total waste of time.
Now i dont know what to do, if i spend $1250 of my hard earned cash im expecting a product to be assembled correctly, especially a "gaming" laptop. I dont know if i should go back to best buy and exhange it again and open the new one right in front of them.
So I am posting this to help any other potential ASUS "customers" from experiencing the same pain and hassle.

Yeah, could have told you how horrible Asus support is and their lack of quality control. This G73JH I think is the third one, I've had to return twice. Asus G Series blows. I like the design, it is quiet, but everything is just aggravating and terrible.
-
+1 for showing this here in case others are making the decision.
It would appear that sadly Asus have not sorted out their disgusting customer service issues then and intend to lose a lot more money again which they cannot afford to do when their whole key to selling is marketing because the hardware is certainly not worth the price.
Embarrassing. -
I myself am the owner of the G75 and have not had those issues. Those issues seem to correspond with a Bad or Rushed Batch but does not indicate a Manufacturing Defect.
It may be Bad Luck but at this point it's too early to say it has many problems. Remember that those with no problems don't post at all and those with problems do post. It's too early to diagnose it and say it's a Manufacturing defect or issue.
-
Wow! How can they still be in business?
I´m sorry to hear about the problems for G75 owner, and then I´m happy that I´ll probably keep my troublesome G73JH for years and years - WITH NO KEYBOARDLIGHTS, GRRRR!!!!
But OK, I have the i7-920XM, hehehe!

Asus need to pull their socks up plain and simple, mistakes like this should never happen and no company should be giving any customer a 3rd model in quick concession to make up for the previous 2 defects its unheard of, not to mention they should have learnt from their mistakes with the numerous faulty models they produced in the past 5 years. They need to stop messing around with reverse engineering and built in motherboards and spend more time making the cheap areas of the laptop better quality while keeping the curves and the cooling which they are loved for and stick in a bloody MXM slot and access panel. -
The reason I went with the G75VW-DS72 over the GT70 0NC was due to the cooling system , the looks and also due to the noise level. The GT70 0NC has a similar setup but however I felt the 'Steelseries' keyboard was more of a gimmick with it's multicolor display. That was in addition to the issue of the Power brick (using 210 watts but only designed for 170/180) and the Virtualization disabled by default (which could be enabled later through a bios update).
Personally I disliked the High glossy components on the GT70 as well. I felt it would attract too much fingerprints and dust. In addition the lack of a manual Eject (requiring use of the S bar) I felt was an oversight by the MSI engineering team. The mSata raid 0 configuration was a feature that drew me in but I felt it was insufficient storage space and I decided to go with the 256GB SSD on the G75VW.
I wasn't fond of the cooling and exhaust location on the GT70.
I used the following reviews to compare:
Review MSI GT70 Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
Review Asus G75V Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews -
In concept it sounded so good at release, the 660M is a very good card the 5/670M is a little bit extra no complaints and paired with an Ivy you think you are sorted but why do they stick with the integrated GPU but completely ignore the integrated card and do not include Optimus when it is a vital aid to mobile gaming. The RMA's I have had and read about make me shiver with anger it should be a thing of the past.
The sad thing is it is not a good thing to see Asus failing by moving away I assumed that in 2-3 years something will come along that will eat up my Clevo and I will return but at this rate it scares me as much as the G73JH at release, it should not be about getting lucky as some mention you are paying out £1500/$ for something that should be a masterpiece for that sort of moneysome of the horror stories you read on here sometimes make my heart bleed I could drop kick my Clevo and then beat it to death with a stale loaf of bread and it would give me the finger and carry on functioning as normal haha
I have never been a fan of MSI so can understand your choice and with Clevo making a terrible move to refrain from BIOS releases for older models you are left with Alienware which I am sure they will be very pleased with the actions of other companies and although they are expensive they are very smart have a great warranty service and allow complete upgradability although I feel dirty saying it they have become a firm +1 in my books.
Can only hope the majority are spot on and it is just a bad batch. Still worrying signs. -
Mhhh intresting... i was looking into this thing... not good to hear this.
Ill have to end up with clevo?! -
You make it seem like a bad thing. Clevo while maybe louder is much more compact. The G series 15" from Asus is bigger than any other 17" and the G73jh I have now is monstrous. No effort at all for portability, my 5870m doesn't even down lock properly. I have to force it with vbios changes. Its pathetic.
Clevo while louder actually fix their issues. Compact design. Better cooling and have optimus and enduro enabled. Easier to upgrade, access components, far better hardware and options!
Sent from my SGH-i937 using Board Express -
Clevo is a good deal with the 7970M as that thing is a monster it is not such a good deal for those of us that have the 6990M and were expecting to upgrade, still hoping someone mods a Vbios which is a possibility. Even so I will wait for the next refresh and certainly consider another Clevo.
Once you go high end it is difficult to go back. -
Anyway, I'll admit my G73JH is still working, I can still play the latest games at 1080p with mostly high settings, but as mentioned this is my third after two RMA's. And I've grown VERY tired of the it's monstrous size and horrific battery life and lack of proper support from Asus.
I wouldn't hold your breath for improvements or support from Asus for your G75, so if you are considering Asus, Alienware or MSI, I'd suggest go for it. MSI support is also better than Asus and they also implemented optimus on their notebooks. Also provide easy accessibility to components. It's only Asus that are with poor support and crummy designs. -

I've seen 4 G75VW in our store for repair so far.
3 of them were purchased from best buy.
All 3 of these units have severe production issues.
The other laptop was sold by us and had a consumer caused issue. (broke HDMI port)
I haven't seen any issues with units direct from distro.
ASUS tends to make special batches for Retailers -
This sounds like the QA issues that plagues the JH at some point, Asus eventually tightened QA regulations and it was fixed on subsequent G7x series. Seems like the same thing happened to at least one batch of G75 unfortunately.
-
No, sorry, dont get me wrong clevo is good, but i hate not having options.
And asus design owns clevo -
It comes down if the looks are really worth it argument and with so many cons outwaying the pros Asus are going to lose. -

They're not designed with advanced user service in mind. ASUS is targeting the non-techie gamers with their laptops. I will agree with ASUS consumer phone support is BEYOND terrible (as they don't really have ANYTHING to do with ASUS.) I strongly recomend purchasing ASUS products from VARs (Value Added Resellers) that offer support, as we can actually call ASUS in CA and talk to REAL ASUS employees to get you proper service.
When you purchase retail (online, best buy, staples) you are responsible for your own warranty service and you may even get a lesser tier of support because you purchased a retailer exclusive SKU. Not only that but these retailers could honestly careless if you purchase from them or your satisfaction.
@ OP
The g75 is a excellent laptop. I strongly suggest purchasing the laptop elsewhere as it seems that Best Buy got some serious duds. However, if you can't (using best buy card financing) then I suggest opening the product in the store and verifying that everything is OK. -

Could one of your please do a full review of the G75 on the forum please all your info about the model and how it runs, purchase experience, pictures and benchmarks it is a valuable resource to have.
If you don't know what to put please feel free to copy either of my reviews they are pretty basic. -

There is no doubting the 7970M the overclocking on it is extreme some are pushing above 1600 on the memory for an ATI card that is obscene. 165gb/s + bandwidth is desktop territory.
You only have to look at benchmark scores I can get 4100 on 3DMark11 at a push the 7970M hits 6900 when overclocked. Crash bang wollop. Pray there is a 7990M or they at least attempt it like they did the 6990M. -
Just read MSI will be releasing a notebook with the AMD Trinity APU and a dedicated 7970M for estimated $1200.
HOLYSMOKES!
Asus is just failing miserably. -
-
So will probably be early 2013hehe
-
I wouldn't say that quite yet.
It may not be available in all regions, but here is one such example of its existence MSI GX60: gaming notebook with AMD Trinity and Radeon HD 7970M - YouTube
Also MSI GX60 the first laptop "gaming" with AMD Trinity | New Technology Magazine
There were a few other sources. Again, it may not be available in all regions of the world, in much the same way the MSI GT685 was not released in the US. -
A couple of years ago we bought an expensive Asus G71 gamer notebook and the screen was defect and went to repair and now it's already too slow for gaming. Now we - unfortunately - have bought this expensive new G75VW, got it today - and it is not it is not working properly! Never Asus again! Obviously Asus do not have sufficient quality control programs.

The G71 should still be able to play the majority modern games, not on the highest settings of course. It would be unreasonable to expect that a mid-range laptop would be able to play games 3-4 years from now. -
good info i was thinking of looking for barebones from asus but i dont want issue like this if the whitebook itself is the problem.
-
Looking to buy a new laptop and have ASUS marked down as a potential candidate, but I'll need to do some more research before making a decision. QC is pretty damn important and if any company is skipping steps or cutting corners, this will come back to haunt them down the road.

Stay well away from the g series
