So i'm going to try to repair this bad boy. Can someone point me to where I can find out how to repair the key thats broken, and put in a new SSD? Guess I'm going to do this myself. Kinda wanted a bigger SSD anyway - so here's my chance....

And aren't those keyboard built in - not clear how I might repair them..do I need to get a replacement?

    Thanks in advance!

Depends on the damage to the key, the keyboard can come out. Any teardown of the G750 series will apply to yours.

Well the teardown doesn't seem to be the issue, as you said there are lots of those. Some wine spilt in my keyboard and the "A" stopped working. Do you think I need to just get a new key or replace the entire thing? New keyboards are almost 200 bucks from what I have found - yowza. With a new HD and a keyboard we're talking 4 or 5 hundred dollars. I bet the computer wont be worth more than 8 or 9 hundred after I fix it. Not sure if I should just start over and build a desktop. I guess I can just used an external keyboard and get an SSD that I can use in a desktop at a later time as well.

You will definitely have to replace the keyboard.

    Asus G750JM 1A Palmrest with Keyboard P N 90NB04J1 R31US0 13NB04J1AM0101 | eBay

    Looks like $95 shipped.

Though first you should take the laptop down to the motherboard and see if there is any residue left on the motherboard. If you find residue take a good look over the motherboard and remove the wine you spilled with cotton swabs (q-tips) and concentrated isopropyl. After it's all cleaned up install the new keyboard and test it out in a virtual enviroment (hirens boot disc/mini xp will work for that).

As for the hdd, it could just be a bad sector unless you dropped it while it was on. You should test out the hdd and see how bad it is (hirens boot disc has hdd tools). It's probably a good move to upgrade to a SSD, they're much cheaper now and will give you a nice performance boost.

Check out newegg and see what fits your budget, I would recommend the corsair force lx series, the 256gb is only $130.

Here's a link, let us know how your repair goes.

wow so they don't have the removable $25 easy to replace keyboard anymore?

i knew that the top plate had to come off, but i figured it was the regular keyboard underneath. is it not possible to separate it from the plate or buy it separately?

EDIT: to OP. buy a keyboard skin. it would've probably saved you from this issue. they cost 6 bucks and are easy to wash. i'd recommend the cooskin TPU kind. it works well for me.

It could be replaceable but it's not like an aluminum mac book with 30 screws securing the keyboard to the palmrest. You might be able to get a new keyboard that will attach to the palmrest straight from Asus but that's just a bad idea... it's like going to the car dealership (Satan) for parts for your car. A used one is a lot cheaper and better in this situation.

Wow, thank you, that's a lot more affordable.

Just to clarify, the A key didn't work for about two months after the wine incident.

More recently, my computer was freezing up, now it won't even boot. If I stick the Windows 8.1 DVD in the dvd drive and have it boot from the DVD drive, it just takes me back into the bios after I get the message "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD". That leads me to think it is a corrupt hard drive. My boot drive is a 256GB SSD. I'm not sure how I would test my hypothesis out - unless I install windows on my secondary HD (standard disc based 1TB), although I do have a macbook pro (I'm using that right now). My theory was I'd get a 500 GB SSD just because I want more room and all I do on my gaming rig is game. But now you got me thinking that it might not be my HD...hmm...I'll report back after I play around a bit...

Thanks for the link to the keyboard! :)

When it happens does the HDD appear in the BIOS? Does the boot order change?
