Greetings everyone. I've read about this problem with Asus gaming notebook PC's but I haven't been able to get much info on the cause or the cure. Here's my issue. Since I first got this otherwise awesome computer, it boots and runs great most of the time. But sometimes, when the power button is pressed, the system will boot up completely while the screen stays completely black. Initially I was just doing hard reboots with the power button and after one or two attempts the screen comes to life. Lately I have found it helpful to just engage sleep mode, wait a few seconds and then power it back up which also gets the display up and running most of the time without having to reboot.

I updated the Nvidia drivers and also upgraded the system BIOS to 204 from the 202 that it shipped with. My PC has the new 980m card with 4GB RAM and it runs Far Cry 4 with ultra settings easily. This machine kicks serious butt while running quiet and cool. I have a few minor nitpicks, like the power cord connection to the PC is lame and always wants to pop out. That's minor though. I really don't wanna send it back unless I absolutely have to since I've heard horror stories of service jobs that didn't correct the original problem.

Does anybody have any ideas here? Thank you all.

ASUS laptops are very sensitive when it comes to updating the graphics driver from nVIDIA. They work best with the ASUS drivers. I remember when I first had my G750JX if I updated to the latest nVIDIA Drivers the system wouldn't even boot anymore where I had to do a format.

    only stick to ASUS drivers

Very interesting. Thanks for that reply Ferris. At least it's somewhat comforting to know I'm probably dealing with a software as opposed to hardware issue. This thing sure does perform though and those latest Nvidia drivers (as I stated previously) that I installed with the handy included tool have Far Cry 4 performing spectacularly. Asus is always slow to upgrade drivers so maybe I'll stay where I'm at unless things get worse. Right now this issue is a minor annoyance but not a major catastrophe.

The drivers should have no impact on a cold boot however as they are not engaged until the system loads the OS, it may be a funny vbios quirk.
