Hey guys, I am sure several of you are aware of the crappy sound problems with the ASUS G75. I recently bought a microphone to plug into the microphone port, rather than using the G75 built in microphone because it is horrible.
The problem here is, when I plug in my microphone the laptop does not pick it up or detect it. This problem is also for the speakers, when I plug in external speakers they are not detected and the audio keeps playing from the laptop still.
The external speakers are in the right port and not the microphone port, and the speakers are on, I even tried the speakers with another computer and the speakers work fine.
I have also tried installing audio drivers, uninstalling them, then re installing them. And this problem still persists.
So please if anyone has any solutions please tell them to me. This is making me so sadI just got this laptop and there is so many audio problems.
Also when I try to update the audio drivers this message pops up for any audio driver I try to install. "String PRODUCT_NAME was not found in string table."

How does the jack feel when you plug the cable in, does it feel looser?

Have you tried playing with the sound panel and selecting different audio output settings like 2.1 or 7.1?

If you have the original HDD you could do a restore to see if the ports work then, if not then it's a hardware fault.

Anyone have a solution to this? I also plug in my external speakers and the computer volume still please through the G75's speakers. So sad, I even messed with the settings under sound.

Sounds like the jack is broken if no software changes have any effect.

But when I plug in the headphones like ear phones they work fine, when speakers are plugged in it does not work.
So therefore the jack works because headphones work fine plugged in, but not speakers. -
I had a similar issue with my headphones. Whenever I plugged them in, sound would still only come out of the system speakers. I fixed the problem by powering my headphones on prior to plugging them in. When plugging in your speakers, are they on or off? If they're off, trying turning them on prior to plugging them in.
Also, when updating your audio drivers, are you using the ones from Asus's site or are you using the ones from VIA's site? -

hmm... I'm stumped as I don't have any speakers near me at the moment to test it out with. I installed Windows from scratch on my machine and the sound drivers from Asus's website installed without a hitch. The file name for the drivers I downloaded is:
Audio_VIA_Win8_VER60101400.zip
That's the set that you downloaded right? -

I saw the error message you mentioned in your other post. I'm not sure why it's acting like that. The drivers for Windows 7 seem to be an older revision than the Windows 8 drivers though.

I am so sad I can't fix this problem.
Anyone have any other suggestions, this is driving me insane. -
Yeah, the same thing happened to me. It doesn't display the progress or anything, but it does install something. I just waited until the HDD light stopped blinking for a bit and restarted my system. I checked the driver version from the VIA Audio Deck and sure enough it was installed.

I did it bchreng, and still no luck, I used the Win 8 version driver, and still have the same problem. Headphones work though, but not speakers.
I have even tested the speakers on another laptop and they work fine. -
Anyone have solutions to this problem? This is driving me insane
