I purchased my G75vw bestbuy model for 2 weeks and it has had sudden shutdown/reboot for 6~7 times. Most of time, I only had firefox/office running and temperature was less than 115 degrees. It has been quite annoying and I am not sure what caused the shutdown/reboot.

Is there anyone having the same issue with your G75vw?

    Need some advice. Appreciate.

If this occurred just recently and not right out of the box, I recommend using Windows System Restore to restore your system to a time before the reboots occurred. If this resolves the issue, pay particular attention to any installations to your system, including Windows Updates, and any programs that may be configured to automatically update.

Otherwise, it would be helpful to get more detailed temperature information - CPU and GPU temperatures in Celsius when your system is idle (no applications running besides temp monitoring software) and the maximum for each when the unexpected reboots occur. I recommend configuring your temp monitoring software to LOG temperatures.

Bad RAM, poorly-seated RAM, bad power supply, electrical short, bad video graphics adapter can all be possible causes besides overheating. Many of these are severe enough to warrant exchanging your laptop for another unit.

If you are running out of time regarding your retailer's exchange/return period, you may just want to exchange it without further troubleshooting, particularly if you experienced reboots right out of the box without installing any additional software.

    Thanks, dstrakele and ALLurGroceries.

Actually, I have exchanged my first G75vw which had the same shutdown/reboot issue to a new one. The second one has been working normally for a week until today when the sudden shutdown/reboot occurred again.

I purchased 2 additional 4GB Samsung DDR3 1600. I did run the memory check and it turned out normal. The idle temperature is about 40~42 degrees Celsius while I don't have the max temperature before the shutdown/reboot. I also replaced my Intel 520 SSD with another one on the first G75vw though I think Intel SSD should have very good quality.

So, I start to worry this issue is due to poor built quality.

Did you try bluescreenview? If you have minidump files and are confused by the program you can upload them here for us to look at.

Event Viewer might also have some information. Figure out the exact time it crashed, then check the computer management event viewer to see if any programs had errors at that time. I figured out PowerDVD11 was causing my computer to randomly go to sleep mode this way. Which, off topic, that program should be avoided at all costs if you need to install something to watch blu-rays on swapping optical drives. Freaking slow-running bloatware.

If you are using an SSD, I suggest a clean Windows install. Make sure you have the wifi drivers in-hand on a flash disk. It only takes maybe 5 minutes to find and install necessary drivers (all 2 or 3 of them) on ASUS's website.

Those are some pretty significant hardware changes, @jll, both of which are capable of causing your reported behavior. I recommend you try to reproduce the issue with the stock hardware to isolate what may be causing the problem.
