So, I bought this laptop 2 days ago and I've noticed a weird staticy buzz coming from the VRM area. It reacts to any type of load or work - even to mouse movement. The notebook itself works fine - no issues that I can see. Is this some form of coil whine or should I go through the hassle of RMAing it?

So it's safe? If so, I can just ignore it and be happy

Yes I also think it's coil whine and yes you should be happy with your GL502VT.
If you run into a problem that won't be related to that noise so just enjoy, I've had more laptops with coil whine than bzzz-less laptops. -

Alright, thanks a ton for taking the time to explain. I was really worried cause I just got it set up and I DID score a Samsung 951 256GB SSD so I'd be sad to see it being returned
. Guess I'll have to learn to ignore the buzzing, it would be easier if it were a constant sound but since it constantly shifts volume and tonality, it may take a bit of time. Though at least it's not a defect.

I found a video which is pretty similar to what I noticed on my machine. Apparently, this is a recurring thing with Skylake.

Yup - as others have said - it reacts to load usually. If the laptop is in full idle - it's not there. -

Update: After the Anniversary update, I get weird whistling beeping noise.

I´ve got similar sounds from my DELL XPS13 i5 5500U so it seems to be normal, i would also not RMA the laptop if everything else is fine.

Yeah, I've been using it a total of 40 days now. Only con I've noticed is the noise. Everything else is stellar.
