GL503VM screen won't turn on after sleep or hibernate.

Hey everyone,

So a problem has recently developed on my 2 week old laptop.

After I put the laptop to sleep or hibernate and turn it back on the screen will either stay turned off (tried to turn on keyboard lights but no response so keyboard doen't seem to work) or the ROG screen will show up but then a black screen with the backlight turned on (the keyboard backlight can be turned on so keyboard seems to be functioning).

Some advice would be appreciated.

First thought is graphics drivers since they can cause issues with sleep/hibernate, reload both the VGA drivers from the ASUS site for your laptop, Intel and NV.

 

1. What was the last thing you did before this issue happened?
2. Try to revert the last action you've performed before the issue occurred.
3. Update firmware, OS, and drivers to ensure everything's up-to-date.
4. If problem persist, back up your data, and do an OS reset. Validate after OS restoration.

I was wondering if you would know something about a sound coming from the laptop. When it's really quiet in my room I can hear like a very faint noise (so faint that I need to get my ear close to the keyboard to actually hear it) sort of a cross between an old dot matrix printer and the sound a hard drive makes when writing data (There are only ssds' in the laptop).

 

That might be the whining noise (electrical humming) coming from the VRM (voltage regulator) which is normal.
