Here are the links to the laptops in question. In particular I'm intrigued by their displays. In particular the G703(More expensive version with gtx 1080 but presumably the same display) is highly praised at notebookcheck, with very low response times for a 144hz, only being beat by a Titan GT73, which however only has a 120hz TN. I'm assuming here both of the models I'm looking at have the same display, but I could be wrong about that.

Which one would you consider? Is there some advantage to a bulkier and pricier G703, even if specs are the same?

G703 will run waaaay quieter and cooler. Might have better speakers as well. 144Hz is a gimmick at this point in time. GL series have half assed cooling and get very loud under stress. Ws71 is an IPS which will give you lightbleed and DS74 is a TN. Stick with 120. Take a close look at MSI too. Their GT75 is godly.

Agreed. Having a thicker or bulkier laptop generally provides better cooling and noise reduction. However, not all IPS panels will have light bleed. It is the luck of the draw on that one, some have no light bleed but some are terrible

I see... It makes a lot of sense overall. Well the DS74 is the same panel as the Ws71. Taking these issues into account(and the fact that after careful deliberation, I'd rather have a laptop + desktop rather than a 5kg beautiful deathmachines that are both G703 and GT75), I think I'm going to buy a GL703GS afterall. I hope I won't experience much issues with overheating and backlight bleed if I select the extra options on hidevolution(that is, picking the panel with less backlight bleed and applying conductonaut with fujipoly thermal pads). What do you think?

It’s not the same panel, ws71 will have much higher latency and you’ll see ghosting in games. I love the way GL looks. I hated that helicopter noise it made when under load (gtx 1060 mind you). Up to you really) Good luck.

What do you mean... Both the GL703GS-DS74 and ROG G703-WS71 feature the 144hz 3ms IPS-Type panels? I think they're the same at least.

Well,Asus had two different screens on previous gen. One was IPS level which was the worst one and the other was TN. You better call HID and ask them.

I'm currently debating the same 2 laptops. Would go with the GL703GS-DS74 even if it's noiser and runs hotter (since it's a bit more portable) BUT it has no thunderbolt 3. This means I won't have the option in a couple of years to potentially extend the life of the laptop with a eGPU (unless I turn it into Frankenstein monster). With that said will wait for the G703GS-WS71 for the thunderbolt 3 if nothing else.
