anyway this may not be the case and some of you may shoot it down but here is my experience

i was idling at 78-85 in my GPU when i could complete 3dmark it was around 13 000 on 755/1100
computer overheated on photoshop, sc2, singularity, you name it... i had GSODs on ALL drivers even stock after 3 months of having my g73jh-a1

i repasted with ic 7 diamond, i now idle at 49-55 with 2 screens going, skype, wmp, etc so not really idling but its good.

no more gsods on stock!!! ran 3dmark06 and got 13 900!
able to overclock to 790/1100 (only on e tried, used to shut right off at 760/1100)

I think there is 2 things going on.
    1) Heat
    2) bad vbios

but i think both are equally bad! because eliminating my heat problems have solved my overclocking and some gsod issues.

---> quick Q: how far can these cpus overclock? from the
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/477553-asus-g51j-a1-i7-720qm-overclocked-properly.html

it shows bus of 149 shuting down, but i just ran a Bus of 158.3 no problem and 3dmark06 cpu tests on that bus and some other benchmarks without a hitch... did I luck out or am i missing something?

    big decrease in temps. congratulations!

I idle at 55 when downclocked to 300/300 and go up to 59~60 when using the HDMI

a new vBIOS is nearing release

I and many others get gsods at really cool temperatures (~60C) so heat is not a factor. But its good you managed to achieve such low temperatures and avoid overheating by repasting. Great job!

I do not GSOD on stock. Never have, even with the first stock pasted GPU which reached the thermal shutdown limit sometimes.
The newer drivers give me GSODs in every possible colour though.
