Well since i got a new laptop, i wanted to find something usefull for my g71gx.
I decided to see what i could get out of it for fun one last time. And i decided to make a quick tutorial on how to get the best performance out of it. i know the card is not very common now days but people still have one so i thought i would help em out.
Firstly dump your bios with gpuz

second i modded it in nibtior like so:
A simple push to 1v(my mother board cant take any higher at all, yours may be different)

Third you need nvflash your old bios and your modded bios on a bootable usb stick(use windows 98 boot files and hp disk format)
also make sure you know the names of your bios they should be saved as a .rom as well.

Next boot off the usb and type: nvflash[space]Newbios.rom then y(for yes)
    ex: Nvflash newbios.rom

[all the information on the bios]
do you want to continue press y cancel press any key: Y

Then it will remove and flash the new bios.
hit crlt+alt+delete and the computer will reboot.

Heres a picture from gpuz with the 1v bios.

Okay now windows should boot up, if you have lines, artifacts etc. reboot flash old bios and re-mod to lower voltage.

    Next test out the card.
You need to make sure the voltage is stable so run 3d mark 06 or furmark for a good while to make sure temps and etc are okay!

Now if they, all your hard work paid off!
Now you get to push the card much further, this is how far i have pushed mine 100% stable
    [IMG]
Now im sure it may be able to get pushed further besides the memory, for its rated at 1000mhz

This has given this laptop a new life and with the cpu overclocked to 3.1 stable it could have lasted a bit longer then i thought.
i hope this helps people out, sorry if this is not the greatest tutorial, but it is my first on the site. So enjoy those new clocks!

I take no responsibility if your laptop breaks! You can BRICK your card doing this all though very unlikely it can happen if you make a mistake!

If you need any further help feel free to ask. if you want to push the voltages more its through trial and error, so dont worry if it messes up booting into windows you can fix it easily. One last thing remember everyone's hard ware may be slightly different from where it can be pushed so yours may blow mine away or not touch it.

why not just use any of the number of tools that don't require you to edit the vbios?

You need a tool to edit the voltage my friend.
I dont overclock via bios i use msi afterburner.

This is just showing people have to overvolt and get the highest clocks possible for this card.

Wait I'm new to IT and stuff, could you please explain each step, I'd really appreciate it. The post is informative but I don't get some terms such as dumping bios with gpuz, etc.

Use MSI afterburner to overclock. Voltmodding the vbios is for advanced users who aren't content with software overclocks. If you've never done either, stick with software to start.

Yeah but I need to mod my voltage though, reason being is I've been told it's faulty and I've had this issue with my display driver where it randomly resets and someone at the nvidia forums told me that my card is either faulty or I'm overclocking (which I'm not)

If someone could just give me a step by step process to change the voltage I'd be grateful.
