I'm looking around for a new gaming laptop and this caught my eye instantly. I was wondering if any G73jh owners could give me some perspective on their experience with this. I would of jumped and bought this by now if I didn't see a whole bunch of threads and posts with minor problems and annoyances. (Such as keyboard issues with delay on some keys apparantly, screen issues, boot issues, etc) I know this abundance of problem posts is probably due to this model's popularity and so a lot of posts regarding it. Also, I'm reading it has some features which make cleaning the fans and the grill above the keyboard annoying. So my question is, is it still worth buying? Do owners of a G73jh have any regrets about buying it? Should I go get it now or do you suggest another model? Thanks.

I have no idea what that whole keyboard missing keystrokes thing was about. I never had any problem what so ever and I found the keyboard on the ASUS g73 to be far superior to any other laptop keyboard I've ever had to deal with.

I did get PSOD within a month of owning it though. It's been in repair since July 22nd and it'll likely be in there longer. That's a definite problem with this laptop.

:( PSOD are not a pleasant sight. Anyone know if Asus is doing anything about this to fix it? Any chance current shipments are problem free?

It's a great laptop. I had it for about a week and a half and didn't have a problem with it. I probably shouldn't have returned it in hindsight. That said, I have the 8760 and like it because I am always changing out stuff, and the G73 isn't upgrade friendly when it comes to the cpu/gpu.

You know the laptop is really cool, I like the style, screen is awesome, and is just fast.

For gaming if you can run all your games with stock drivers 9.12 or 10.1 then it runs them great. The biggest problem the majority of people are getting is the GSOD on any drivers released by ATI and not ASUS. Thats where the problems are. For me I will be needing to run FFXIV and sadly this game doesn't support these old drivers. Mostly every other game that I have played is working fine.

The biggest worry I would have for you buying one is will ASUS be releasing updated drivers in the near future. So far its been 7 months without a Driver update. So thats where the scary part is.

For the keyboard part, I think BIOS 209 fixes any problems people were having, and I don't have any issues with it.

I honestly do really want it but it seems like its gambling with a good chance of RMA.

Get one from Gentech or Powernotebooks. They will stress test the unit before shipping it out...this will minimize your chances of getting a lemon.

Ya get one from Gentech. You could just drop a note to change resolutions, plug in to external monitors thru DVI and HDMI - those are what usually cause the PSOD issues.
