I know all the parts are the same except the GPU, how much of a performance increase (in %) would the 560m be?

Huh, not a big increase... You suggest waiting for its release?

I couldn't wait another few months and I like the design of the g73.

I guess it comes down to which design you like, but I wouldn't wait just for the 560m.

If you can get a good deal on a g73sw I would do it.

Compared to the predecessor, the GeForce GTX 460M, the 560M offers higher clock speeds and a power optimized chip. The GF116 core is basically an optimized GF106 core with the same features. The chip offers 192 shaders and a 192 Bit memory bus for GDDR5. More details on the GF106 architecture can be found in the GeForce GTX 460M article. Depending on the used amount of graphics memory, the performance is between a fast GeForce GTX 460M and a Mobility Radeon HD 5870. Therefore, even demanding modern games should run fluently in high resolutions. E.g., only Metro 2033 and Crysis did not run fluently in the highest detail settings using a GeForce GTX 460M.

That is surely because of the drivers right because my 5870M with a 720QM can hit 9000+ with only a small overclock.

If not G73 it up! :D Watch out for the dodgy BB deals on the GTX460 though.

I was thinking of buying the G73, or should I wait for the G74? Or should I wait for the G74 and get the G73 at a good price?

G73 is going to be going down in price all the time but that does not mean it wont go down in price completely. Best thing you can do is look out for a bargain thats what I did took me about 6 weeks but in the end I saved near £400 against the going rate of a JH model and spent £250 maxing it out and in the end ended up with a beast of a bargain.

G74 is looking like an in between model for me yes it has a sandy but the GPU remains a bottleneck much more so than the G73 and it wont be cheap by a long shot.

I personally will skip G74 and wait till 2012 for something special or wait for the 6970M to be paired with something smart and pick it up once the price goes down.

You cant beat a good G73 at a good price if all you want it for is gaming and general tasks. A sandy with a slow GPU is like having a threesome with Megan Fox and a 36 Stone sumo wrestler called boris.

If it has the new second gen i7 in it I would buy it. The 460m is a very overclocking happy card. It will play most games with good frame rates at native res. Just Metro 2033 and Cyrsis drop it to its knees at ultra settings. But then again, it does it to all laptop gpu's other than CX or SLI.

After the G74 comes out, how much do you think the G73 will sell for? The BB version..

Depends on ehich BB version of G73 your talking about. If it is the BST6 with the gimped 1GB 460m in it I myself wouldnt buy it for $500. But you can find the G73SW XA1 for 1400. And BB has there BST8 for 1500. Newegg should be getting there's soon. I'd say around the 1400 range. I know Tiger Direct has there and I dont know if Xotic PC has there model in yet, but they do have the A1 in.

If you can find a G73JH BST7 then get it. I saw the last ones going for around 1200. But the G73JH-RBBX05 is the refurbished one and they sell for around 900. If you can't find one of those in stock some where then look at the MSI GX660's. They have the 5870 in them also and alot of places still carry them in stock like Newegg, RK Computer, Frosty Computer, Xotic PC.

I second this. If you can manage it, pick up a cheap G73. With how far behind software is in comparison to hardware, the 5870M should and will last you a good couple of years.

In that time, perhaps a card with viable performances improvements will show up with the same price range.

Better wait so you can compare those 2.

By the way, if 6970M will be on the next G series would it be dual gpu too? wakekeke...

Desktop 6990 used special thermal paste for cooling improvements. I hope ASUS will do the same.

i doubt asus will use dual GPus again after their W90 disaster. They'll probably use a 6970M at most... probably won't use 2.

Don't think ASUS will ever use SLI or CrossFireX with their silent and cool design model, it'll just mess up everything the G73 is good for and make it hot.

I didn't change the BIOS or did anything special to my video card... I probably just got a video card that can clock higher on the same voltage.

    Thanks for responding!
I can reach 850MHz too, but is not stable!
When trying to run any 3D application with a 850Mhz clock Driver Immediately resets to the default setting.

You can be stable at 850Mhz, run the Games Can Peacefully Without any Bug or Problem to 850MHz GPU Clock

Could you provide his BIOS VIdeo here for Celebrities
If you can not share, you could enter the BIOS version of your VIdeo

Thanks, I'd be happy if I could get a 850MHz No problems!

I've thought about the possibility Edit My Video BIOS to increase voltage, but I still do not know how.

    Thank you for your attention

Try to get a Clevo I'd say, with a 460M or 5870M which you can upgrade next year. The SB should be more than enough for 3 years. The i7 720QM in the G73jh is a great CPU, but the SB is substantially better, so that could use an upgrade now, and be future proof for a few more years. The HD5870M should be good for a few more years yet. Every game people have worried about mobile GPU not being able to run have been proven wrong. Metro 2033 plays fine at high if you disable tessellation and hardware DOF for example. DX11 and DX11 lighting, shadowing still turned on. The same will be for BF3, despite what anyone says. The hardware DOF, tessellation and other intensive methods do not scale quality and improvements vs performance, so they are of little consequence.

So I think if you got the G73jh now, you'll be fine. But if you go with a Clevo so you can upgrade the GPU next year, also a great idea. But you do take a gamble if Clevo will provide the support you need to upgrade next year. They probably will.
