I found this on Amazon and decided its exactly what I want: Amazon.com: ASUS G53JW-XA1 Republic of Gamers 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (Amazon Exclusive): Computer & Accessories
I currently have a 27 inch iMac and plan on using this mean machine as a Desktop at home and as a laptop when I go to school. The laptop appears to only support VGA and HDMI and I want to get the same 2560x1440 resolution I'm used to hooked up to this thing, will getting a Dell 27u11 (and selling my imac) allow me to do that? I've heard that people are getting maxed out at 1920x1080 and I'd really hate to buy an 1100 dollar monitor to be stuck with a big blurrier version of the Asus G53's 15 inch 1080p screen.
Also I'm planning to get an ssd namely the OCZ Vertex 2, it costs 240 on Newegg you can see it here:
Newegg.com - OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Could anybody tell me if this is a good option as far as SSD goes? It'll be my first SSD ever.
Overall I really would like to only have one computer, just this laptop but I still want my workplace enviornment with my 27 inch display running at 2560x1440 monitor in front of me. I'd like to sell the iMac and replace it with a 27 inch screen powering the same 1440p screen resolution, is there any possible way through HDMI or am I missing something here? If theres a way to do it where I can use my iMac as the screen that'd be fine too.

I honestly can't say on the monitor issue, perhaps one of the more experienced members can comment there. As for the SSD drive, the Vertex 2 is one of the speedier SSD drives that I am aware of, so it's a fine choice for your first one (I assume you plan on mainly using it for your OS). The only thing I would suggest is maybe waiting a few weeks before you buy it; it might possibly drop in price for the holidays.

I believe its up to the monitor in this case whether or not it will take a 2560x1440 over HDMI or not. Some monitors will only do it over dual link DVI or DP.
Technically HDMI 1.3 or above can do it, but it'll be up to the monitor manufacturer. The G53 has HDMI 1.4 so it should be ok to go.
As for SSD you generally hear good things about that model so I think you'll be fine, the only other one I'd be comfortable with recommending are the Intel X25M's... they come in 80gb or 160gb. -
I would just go with Crucial C300 over the vertex, but both are really nice drives, just be warned that Amazon nor any of the G53JW on the market come with 2nd caddy/bracket for the 2nd hdd, so you will have to improvise or wait some time for it to be available, but totally worth it the upgrade to an ssd. -

You can always go with another laptop that has DVI out, not sure if it would work but i bet the reseller can tell you. Something like SAGER NP8690.

Unfortunately DVI-I is a single link adapter as far as I know so that laptop wouldn't do the trick. Hmm, its really unfortunate if the Asus G53 can't support this feature because I'd really like to use it as both my desktop replacement and my mobile machine. Any laptops with similiar capabilities with DVI-D, Mini DisplayPort, DisplayPort outputs?
Edit: Talked to a reseller and found out the DVI-I in the NP8690 is actually Dual Link DVI, sounds like what I need. Would love to get some more confirmation though!

Hmm, in order to give the Alienware similiar specs to the Asus G53 (1920x1080, i7 1.73 ghz, nvidia gtx 460, 8 cell, or 9 in dells case, 6 gigs of ram) the final price is 2199, its a little painful to think I'd need to spend $900 just to get a display port adapter
