    Hey all,

I got my new G73jh-x1 in the mail and have just finished cleaning, flashing and updating. Now to the fun part: playing games.

I have SCII installed, and although setting everything to Ultra is beautiful, I'm a little played out for the time being. I also have Tropico 3 but aside from that, nothing. Here's a few games I was looking at:

Crysis - First FPS I thought of but it's been a long time since I played with KB/Mouse.

Empire: Total War - buggy, yes but might be nice to experience a TW game at top settings.

Civilization V - Not sure if it's patched to a respectable state.

I might even consider DA: Origins although I've finished the 360 version a number of times.

What would you recommend to open this bad-boy up?

    Fallout New Vegas runs great.

    Mass Effect 1 runs so-so.
Mass Effect 2 runs absolutely great.

Started this weekend with DA: Origins, I love it :)
Runs smooth on max resolution with max details!
Then I recently finished Mass Effect 1+2, Wolfenstein, Bioshock 2 and others :)
Most of them play perfect on max resolution and details.
I had some crashing with DA:Origins (the game simply exited) and it seems to be an issue with DX10. So I run it now in DX9 mode and it works absolutely smooth.

Company of Heroes (COH) bundle, Age of Empires 3 bundle and an older adventure games called Titan's Quest Immortal Throne (Diablo lite - just plain fun with the kids playing together). COH is a DX10 game and really looks awesome at full setting on the G73.

    Cheers,

I haven't had any crashing issues with Dragon Age, other than running it with monitoring software at the same time, and only infrequently.

most the games I play are mmorpgs(massive online role playing games). World of warcraft, aion, lord of the rings online(free to play) and dungeons and dragons online(Also free to play) are some ones to start with. There are many new ones to watch for coming out at the begining of 2011 like guild wars 2, star wars:the old republic tera online and rift :planes of telara and secret world.

Lot's of good game advice. Thanks all, keep it coming.

I decided to give Crysis a go last night (off GGate) and I'm very impressed so far. I find it hard to believe the game was made 3 years ago because the graphics are simply stunning, especially at max settings :D
I played for a good 3 hours straight and the heat coming out of the fans (the right more than left strangely enough) wasn't excessive at all. In fact no GSOD or anything, which is a great sign.

Knock on wood but this is one fine laptop. The screen, the finish, even the backlit keyboard, it just feels right. Using the ASDW keys for the first time in a decade, less so.

I noticed Amnesia: The Dark Descent there...very good game! If you like scary games definitely pick it up. It kept me entertained quite nicely.

Dont max out sc2... as soon as you come to some water with reflections maxed, the G73 will slow down to a crawl, so make sure those are disabled.

I think the first thing a new gaming rig owner should do is setup their Steam account. With the upcoming XMas Sales event they always have, you should be able to get some sweet games for about 50-75% off. But you will have to check it daily.

HellCry is right. Don't max out the graphics. The game runs sick on high settings. Also, try BF: BC2 or any of the recent COD games....they look and run extremely well.

Command & Conquer (series) is extremely fun (especially if you have a buddy to play with frequently).

WoW has its expansion pack coming out in 2.5 weeks. If you have lots of free time, then it's a good time sink.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has its xpack next month "Vietnam". Best FPS I've ever played.

G53 can handle all of them on ultra (with medium shadows).

You exaggerate of course, I can think of a dozen games just off the top of my head. Of course many would never work on a console - Hearts of Iron comes to mind. Many of my favourite xbox games were in fact pc games first (DA:O, Oblivion). Of course it all comes down to personal preference.

I've managed to avoid WoW up until this point; my mind's set on another Blizzard release, Diablo 3. In fact, it's a big reason I bought this rig in the first place. Who knows what other great games will be out by the time that finally hits the shelves.

I can't recall the last C&C I played, Generals maybe. Is Tiberium Wars at all good?

depends on race and map. For most of map, it will run around 30-60ish fps.
usually around 50 but zerg average is something like 30-40, you can turn off reflection and it will run silky smooth

I would recommend BFBC2and TF2 if you like shooters.

Those 2 are still my favourite shooters.

Besides that, Steam is having sales now, there are some good games being sold at cheap price.

I think Asus should dump all the bloatware and have Steam installed out of the box for all their future G-Series laptop.
