Hello, I have a question since I never dealt with warranties before.

I have Asus G71GX and the big fan on it, I think it's gpu fan (added pic below) is going off like a jackhammer :) For last week it started getting a bit louder and louder and today it hit the fan, it's so loud I can hear it downstrairs when my computer is on. The temperatures still are fine, just the fan is louder than my car :p

Now do I send this for repair (I'd rather not, heardd it takes a while) or can i fix it myself and get a replacement fan ? I still have 6months of warranty left on this laptop.

It's the only fan in picture...

    Hi.
It can be easy to fix if you dont want to send it to repair. You need to use mechanical oil. Only one tiny drop is enough. Or order replacement. Here are picture of fan disassembed.

Glad it helped you. How long since you got laptop? This type of fans are made to last very long but eventualy they must be replaced. And did you clean it at same time? It is important to clean all dust espesially from rotor chamber othervise you will got same noises and risk phisical damage to fan.

    Thx for the infos.
Is this rotor part just hold by the magnet?
Is it easy to separate the 2 fan parts?
My GPU fan has some rattling sound while on 2600rpm. CPU fan is much more silent.

Yes it is hold only by magnetic force. It is easy to disassembe, screw out screws on metal cover, remove/pull out rotor blades and blow out all dust from blades and chamber. Then apply verry little oil to metal axe of motor.

The laptop is 1.5yrs old, so it's kinda strange that the fan started making noise so fast, and I did clean everything from dust.

This laptop is great as far as coooling goes, it stays under 90c under havy load, usually around 65-70 while gaming, I saw it once jumped to 87 when I looked at my log after. And I sometimes do 7 hour sessions in mmo's since winter is my time off. Great cooling...
