I dont know why but i never get a stable gpu usage in games with an overclock (550,950,1350) (bc2, crysis warhead, nfs hot pursuit)

In bc2 even without an overclock i get unstable gpu usage

    My gpu temps are around 88 - 90 and cpu 60 - 70

Is there a way to get it stable

90 is not bad for a gaming temp for the 260m. Unstable is ~105+

But some how my gpu usage is not stable even with those temps

And after 2 or more hours of gaming (mainly bc2) my laptop will freeze
    Any suggestions would be helpful

It's normal that the GPU usage isn't stable. No game that i know of will push the GPU at 100% all the time at settings that will give you a playable framerate. There will always be ups and downs in GPU usage when playing. If you take a fps for example, the framerate outdoors and indoors will vary. It will also vary depending on the amount of effects happening, like explosions, particle effects etc.

I've seen games push my GPU to 100% only to have it down to something like 85% a few moments later. You won't get a stable GPU usage unless you use a program like furmark to stress test.

Remove or upgrade the creative software, that caused BSODs and lockups on the G51J. The Razer software was also known to cause lockups and BSODs. Upgrade to the latest razer drivers if you use that mouse. Otherwise remove all razer software.

How come in crysis 2 i never go below 97 then?

Would even razer mamba's software cause this? All my razer softwares are uptodate

I forgot to mention that the freezes only happen when overclock

Then your overclock isn't stable. Simple as that. :p

Try using lower clock settings until you don't crash... every card has different tolerances.

Because Crysis 2 demands more out of your GPU. I never said you would see that 100%-85% scenario in every game. I see that a lot in SC2, but not in civ5 which has it in the 90s to 100% all the time. I was just pointing out that no game would push it to full usage 100% of the time unless you are playing at settings too high for your GPU.

Illz, did you increase the voltage to your card? When I overclocked my GTX 260m, it wasn't stable until I increased the voltage

Naa I didn't increase the voltage of my graphic.

And r u sure that after increasing the voltage it be stable and not freeze because i do not want to screw anything up

What is the best way of increasing the voltage?

I'm positive. Higher clocks require more juice to run stably. To do it, use nibitor to increase the voltage to the next available step.

I fixed my problem by using Throttlestop. It was because my cpu kept throttling which caused my gpu usage to become unstable. It wasnt the higher clock speeds nor my temps.

Anywayz thanks for the help.

Even at settings too high for your GPU, you won't get stable, maxed out usage.

Also, you mentioned you're getting instability in the form of freezing when overclocking your GPU. That's not surprising, since you're overclocking your GPU.

Btw my overclocks where never that high. All i did was take to nvidia stock settings(550,1375,950) from the asus stock settings(500,1250,799).

And i wasnt actually getting instability in the form of freezing when Oc'ed. It was just unstable, it kept dropping from 98 to 54. the freezing only occurred when i overclocked from nvidia tool.
