I was gaming for almost 12 hours total yesterday (lol no joke). Constantly switched from Mass Effect 2 to Bad Company 2. Anyway, After a sessio of BC2, i take my headphones off and i hear this weird noise. It was definitely coming from the laptop. It was coming from the right side (looking at the screen) and Id have to say its the right rear fan...but im not entirely sure.

It sounds like a humming noise, honestly i kind of doubt it the fan since ive never hear a fan sound like that..also its not just a continuous noise..it keeps switching around..kind of like when a HDD scans in older PCs but much quieter.

Well, i turned off the laptop overnight and i try it out this morning..no noise until about 15 mins later...It ran for about 5 mins then i picked the laptop up and set it back down and the noise stopped..

what could it be? the fans? something loose? i'll check back in here when it makes that noise again.

edit: The weird noises havent returned...yet...well ive narrowed down that it is in fact the rear-right fan. Its weird coz the left one is silent yet the right one seems to be the only one running. Its a little bit louder than how it used to be but nothing as crazy as the weird noise..it sounds just as if its revved up to at least 70% constantly. Weird, but as long as my temps look clean i guess i have nothing to worry about...

PhnX, i just read the description of your noise issue in your topic...and ive got to say you've perfectly described the same sound im hearing.

As i mentioned it came up and i picked up the laptop and set it back down..and the noise disappeared. But the right side fan has been in a permanent louder state. Before the fans were dead silent..i mean you had to press your ear up against the exhaust to hear anything, now i can hear the right fan exhaust air from 5 feet away. Nothing too loud but definitely noticeable w/o ambient noise.

As far as my temps go, theyre pretty stable. Been running GPU-Z for the past 48 hrs w/ max temps @ 77c and in those 48 hours ive gamed about 18-20 hrs total with 3-4 hr bursts. The crackling noise hasnt returned but as i mentioned ill post if it does or if i find any noteworthy info on the subject.
