I got this game on the weekend and tried to play it today. To my amazement this 2008 game plays only on low setting on my G73 JW![]()

Don't worry, GTA IV even crushes the most beast desktops too.
It's more CPU intensive than it is in GPU intensive. -
you on the latest nvidia drivers? somethings not right on ur system. i have the JW as well
i get constant 45-60 native res, high settings, shadows turned off. -
It's the shadows that'll kill ya

low settings? you have to adjust the view and detail distance sliders. I can play with all high settings(no night shadows) and have the distance sliders around 30 and get 30+ avg fps. It even played well on my old 6860fx YouTube - GTA 4- P-6860FX X9000 @ 3.6 GHZ 8800m GTS

Download the latest patch for GTA 4. It solves the problem with performance.
-
I'm running the newest NVidia drivers from their website. -
I have the latest NVidia drivers from their site too.... did you change the shadows etc??
I don't have the patch.. will instll that and play a little with the shadows and update -
Believe me, playing without the patch is pain. On my G51VX ( GTX260M ) when I run the game without it, I've got a feeling that my card is out of air ( choking )

Yeah. Some areas are like watching the matrix movie(Slow mo scene's). LOL.

I installed the patch but GTA did not work after that .. followed this link to fix it GTAForums.com -> GTA 4 Doesn't Launch After Patch 1.0.7.0 ...... btw it works good now .thanks

I should be getting my new G73 tomorrow and I so can't wait to try out gta 4 on it. Should play way better than on my G51vx. Love that game. I have it on steam and have logged 280 hours so far. LOL!
