    Hey guys,

    I have a G50Vt-X6, I recently installed Win7 RC1 Build 7100 x64, and it all seems to work flawlessly!
I made this guide based on this thread - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=382897. But I just expanded it for easier usage.

    Let's start:

First, I started by I installing the video drivers - go to Nvidia.com, "download", "drivers", etc. It's not necessary to install video first, but I just wanted to check out the graphics in Win7 lol

Now, go to http://support.asus.com/ and select downloads:
I needed to install several things for my laptop (G50Vt), but the listing under my model didn't have all the necessary drivers. So I opened a new tab and selected drivers for G50V, and I got all the drivers to make Win7 work.
*As a note, I used drivers for Vista 64.

    Here's the to-do list:
    1) Chipset - INF Update (found in both)
    2) Others - Intel Matrix Storage Manager (found in G50Vt)
    3) ATK - ATK0100 (both)
    4) ATK - ATK Generic Function Utility (both)
    5) Utilities - KB Filter (found in G50Vt)
    6) ATK - ATK Hotkey (both)
    7) ATK - ATKOSD2 Utility (both)
    8) Audio (both, choose the newer version)
    9) Utilities - Wireless Console (since WiFi was recognized automatically by Windows 7, i didn't bother looking for drivers for Intel Wireless 5100) - (got from G50Vt, but probably is in both)
    10) Ricoh Card Reader (G50Vt)
    11) ATK - ATKMedia (found in G50V, no idea what it is for, but just in case)
    12) Utilities - Virtual Camera Utility (G50Vt)
    13) Utilities - Lifeframe (G50Vt) - it will probably make an error when u try to install it, so you need to choose compatibility with Vista. I didn't choose it, but when the error popped out, I let Windows search for the solution
    14) Utilities - Power 4 Gear eXtreme (G50V)
    15) Utilties - DirectMessage and DirectFlash Utility (G50Vt) -> this is the DirectConsole2 app!
    16) I went to synaptics.com and downloaded the latest driver for touchpad, with my OS selected as Vista64.
    17) Infrared - go to device manager, select the remaining "unknown device", "update driver" and let Windows deal with it
    18) Bluetooth - I actually installed the driver for bluetooth somewhere in the beginning, but I forgot where exactly - I let Win7 deal with it I put it in the end, because I think it is not the most important one, though.
    19) Utilities - SPlendid Utility (G50V) -> I never used this app, bt I know I had it on my Vista, so I just installed it as well. Doesn't really makes much difference for me.

And lastly, after Installing all this stuff, you find out that the hotkey don't work, the Fn+F11 or Fn+F12 do not work to change the volume, etc.
Don't panice! Very simple way out --> go to \Program Files(x86)\Asus\ATK Hotkey\ and find Hcontrol.exe. Run it and voila! Btw, I created a shortcut to it and placed it in Start->All programs -> Startup, so it starts every time I start the computer, otherwise you will have to start it manually.

That's it! Enjoy your Windows 7!

Thanks, just a note, I would start with the INF update before everything else. Just to be on the safe side. :)

All my hotkeys are working but when I press the touchpad button it says touchpad disabled and it turns off the touchpad lights but the touchpad still works.

Have you tried a recent touchpad driver from Synaptics?

yeah because I installed Windows 7 about 2 weeks ago, with all software and drivers working, and havent had a single issue out of disabling the touchpad. I guarantee its the Synaptics software not installed.

Can I just hit the Upgrade button and expect all my old software (including SmartLogon and Direct Console 2.0) to work still without reinstallation?

I know that all my non-ASUS software is compatible with Windows 7, but I don't know about the ASUS stuff.

You mean to install W7 over Vista as an upgrade, without nuking Vista in advance?

I don't know, I would not recommend that, I expect things can get pretty messy in this way. But maybe they've improved the process in the meantime, I am still an XP person...

Well, I did it! Everything seems to work fine.

I know what you mean though. The Upgrade button was never a good choice when going from 98SE to XP, but I never even bothered to try from XP to Vista.

It works well now though. It told me beforehand that I'd have to reinstall two programs, but one of them still works anyway (SmartLogon), without reinstalling.

Cool good to know I will be sure to put a link to this in the G50 guide as I had not yet had complete success, though NickNations mentioned he had and was willing to help figure it out.

SmartLogon works straight out that wasnt one of the problem programs for me.

Its the safest bet to just restart after every time it asks you to.

I don't know if the wireless console is compatible, as I use the Windows 7 wireless configuration service.

Tks for the help and the quick reply.

I just don´t agree with one thing. The Intel Matrix Storage Manager should be installed using the device manager. If you try to install it using the .exe file you will get an error message. Even in the Vista. Its just update the file gator (I don´t remember the exactly name).

Let´s go to windows 7 now

    Tks

Just another question. Should I install the wireless driver from Intel ? And which audio driver should I download from realtek.com. Is it the High Definition Audio Codecs ?

    Thanks Eduardo

I didn't bother to install any Intel Storage Manager. Then again, I just hit the upgrade button so I didn't have to worry about it.

As for the other drivers, the stock ones work fine so just stick with those for simplicity. They should be on your recovery discs that came with the machine, or you can get them from support.asus.com

Thank you Aidar for the awesome guide. I had some trouble when I put win 7 on my laptop and i followed your guide and it works great now. Thank you so much for taking the time to give back to the community.
Still some minor issues like gadgets not showing back up after a reboot, etc. and I somehow lost the windows clock from the gadget menu, but I am happy. It's a very snappy OS compared to vista.

Dang it... I can't find the thread I got the tip from... ( This thread helped, but it's the source of this tip.) Nevermind, I found the thread.

    go to Regedit
    go to:
Change HControlUser to just HControl and make sure the right panel has quotes. Assuming you installed it in the default directory, it should look like:
You won't have to run it in start menu or manually. If you have UAC on, like I do, it'll prompt you everytime you boot up. Obviously, it won't prompt you if you disabled UAC.

I don't recall if I had to do anything to get the Touchpad to disable/enable correctly... but there's another method of disabling it, if you don't mind keeping it disabled until at least reboot. Go to the BIOS and disable it from there. Like I said, in order to re-enable it, you have to reboot and go into BIOS again.

Just tried this on Win7 RTM (Ultimate x64) and it works, without UAC prompts, even though I haven't touched UAC settings yet. Looks like UAC has improved since the RC/Beta.

Ok I found a solution for the Webcam.

    Because my PID was USB\VID_04F2&PID_B012

    (Device Manger/USB Webcam/Proprieties/Detail Tab/
From the dropdownlist: Device ID Number)

I had to dnl this driver Chicony_CNF7050_CNF6131 Camera Driver from Asus Support. And Right-CLick/Run as Admin on 2kSETUP64.exe and reboot.

But My Power4Gear touch button (Running person) is not working...

im having an issue with my P4G touch button as well

also my dvd drive keeps locking up on me. it disappears from the device manager and doesn't show under my computer. i need to shutdown the computer, and while its booting i have to eject the disc in the drive for it to appear again.

if i don't do this, the disc inside just spins continuously.

it just happens out of no where

How do you install the ATK0100 , i dl from asus and tried also the cd drive and in both cases i get drivers fail to install when i double click it. Just wondering how to install it, maybe from the device manager, but not sure how to look for it.

Edit, nevermind i got it installed by runing it as adminitrator.

I just got the RTM (x64) from my school via the MSDN-AA, and unfortunately it also had this problem perhaps 1/4 of the time. I have disabled the driver signature enforcement (hit F8 on bootup) and so far I haven't had any more problems--though I haven't put too many more CD/DVD's in.

Great guide! I had previously upgraded to Win7 Home Premium from the preinstalled vista installation which worked beautifully, but doing a clean install of Win7 Professional hasn't been so easy on my G50vt-X5.

Still having a couple minor issues though:

    1. I can't get HControl to start automatically w/out the UAC prompt. I'd rather not turn UAC off. (And it worked fine when I did the Win7HP Upgrade...) I read a howto on starting it w/ the Task Scheduler, but when I do that it doesn't even start.

    2. Power4Gear Button doesn't work, as other people have commented.

The weird one that nobody else seems to post about that I've experienced though:

    3. Half the time I boot up, the touchpad doesn't work *at all*. The light's on, but it doesn't respond. If I reboot, the touchpad works just fine. I haven't CONFIRMED it yet, but it seems that if I don't touch the touchpad at the login screen, is when it doesn't work once I log in.

Any further assistance with these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Someone posted a guide to fix this in Win7, haven't tried it myself yet since I'm waiting for my OEM copy to arrive:
    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...board_id=3&model=G50Vt&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

I don't recall anything for this, I don't have my notes on me, as I've been collecting info on everyone's experiences with Win7 and their G50VT installs and just putting together a good notes summary on what I can do to fix things when they occur.

There's a Windows 7 driver from Synaptics for the touchpad which a few people have said works.

be careful when installing drivers, i read an article that says that windows 7 has over 80.000 drivers to self install and sometimes when you uninstall one for updating it with a new version and you need to reboot he install automatically the OS version xD. In order to install what you have downloaded don't reboot or execute the setup from your driver, don't believe that windows will automatically detect what you have downloaded.
