I recently purchased the new Seagate Momentus XT 750gb drive to replace the 500gb my G73JH came with because that drive was beginning to exhibit problems with freezing the system during use and showing signs of a hard drive that was failing.

The first one I installed started to make these chirping and clicking sounds shortly after I installed it and failed the seagate diagnostic test. I returned that one and the second drive worked for almost a month before beginning to click and chirp and freeze like the first although it does not do this as much. Is this a Seagate problem or is my Sata controller failing? I might have to try a different brand. My ssd still works fine even with one bad sector.

I believe it is a Seagate problem. I'd recommend Western Digital.

Edit: But you might have to go through the RMA process until you get a working HDD or get a refund.

Did you do any diagnostics on your first HDD?

For the first one since I only had it a couple days I was able to send it back to Amazon and get crosshipped a new one. I did go through the seagate diagnostic program that basically said the drive was defective.

This second one I went through the seagate dos version of the diagnostic program per instructions on their website and it came up with 8 errors on the long test which was repaired by the program. When I did the test again the drive passed. When I booted windows again I heard the chirp right away and the hdd light never went off. Had to shut windows down again because the drive failed to show up in explorer.

ran another diagnostic test in windows and it failed with the message that I have a faulty drive. Third Seagate that failed on me, just ordered a scorpio black 500gb for $89 on Amazon, too good a price to pass up, hopefully this drive will work.
