I have an Asus G73 laptop connected to an acer GD235HZ monitor via HDMI, speakers are connected through the monitor and in normal operation of the laptop i have sound set for HDMI and works completly fine. If I turn the monitor off for any amount of time i lose the ability to set sound through HDMI and must log off and log on, or restart the laptop to re-enable HDMI sound. In the sound playback devices i have Disabled and Disconnected devices shown. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1.

It's the DRM killing the audio connection... you could just rest the default output to your lappy speakers, then put them back to HDMI under Playback Devices.

so there is no way to correct the "losing hdmi option after turning off monitor" problem?

You can thank the MPAA / RIAA for this, since they insisted on a Protected Audio Stream for HDMI.

Thank you.
