I've always used HDMI to use my TV as a monitor for my Asus G73 laptop. Recently though, only video was transmitted to my TV, and the audio was only coming out of the laptop speakers all the sudden. I checked playback devices, and it said HDMI audio was 'not plugged in.'

So, I restarted my laptop and low and behold the audio started working in tandem with the video again. What could have caused it to display as 'not plugged in' prior to my restart?

While I can't answer to your question because I don't know the answer, this issue occurred to me as well about 2 months ago. Maybe updating the video driver will help (I don't have any issues now running on 11.2)

Still happens to me occasionally, but much less since around Catalyst 10.8 so.

Seems maybe for me it happens more in a resumed-from-sleep/hibernate session than in a cold-booted session...
