Guys I enjoyed my Asus since I bought it last Nov. and have been playing COD , GTA, BF3 on it happily.
About three days ago when i tried to turn on the laptop, the moment after I
press the power button, all lights go on and it would sound like the Hard drive makes a noise as it starts spinning(the sound every computer makes when turning on), but right there it freezes and black screen, lights stay on, and no noise or anything would happen. it'd just stay like that, until i
have to eventually take out the battery to power it off(manually).
I'm all nuts now guys.. and I'm thinking before going through a painful RMA,
i'd like to ask whether you guys experienced similar problems before and have suggestions..

    Thanks a bunch.

After powering it on, do you see a splash screen? Can you access the BIOS or boot options?

Check the RAM too, a faulty stick of RAM does that too.

He means the ram might be bad. You'll have to take out all the ram and slowly put in one at a time to see if ram is the problem. Or if you have another laptop, put the ram in that and run a memtest to test the ram.

    1) Testing your memory is a good idea. I recommend using memtest86 and following the procedure in this post: Asus G74sx and Ram Dimm problem

    2) You report the system freezes right after the startup noise. I suspect your system may actually be loading Windows to make that noise. You might want to try draining your battery to see if it changes behavior. See this thread:
    G73jh- LCD issues

    3) You could attempt this Aptio BIOS Recovery procedure as a last resort before RMA:
