IT is called Vbios chip
loaction of ATI 5870m VBIOS chip - Bing Images -
The Vbios chip is going to be soldered onto the graphics board you are aware of this?
Before sending SVL7 your BIOS chips ask yourself this would you trust sending him your girlfriend?<--- I borrowed that smiley off of you btw
<--- and that one.
-
a professional worker will do for $$ . but actually my next plan was not to reflash or replace bios chip it was to bake it up in owen
.
so im not afraid to send it to svl7 because it is in broken state (sick state ,not well).
one more thing if your gf get sick wont you send your gf to doctor to get treatment? -
How did your 5870M die? I haven't heard of many hitting the wall.
Even so with the 6970M flying around now you might want to just check online or on Ebay because there are sure to be some being sold off cheap. I would stick to baking your dinner than baking a GPU although it has been known to work it really is only a temporary fix a bit like jamming the fans on an Xbox 360 RROD it might work forever or it might only work for 5 minutes.
I would send my girlfriend to the doctor yes, but not to Dr SVL7haha.
-
yes I looked for some hd 6970m cards on ebay but im afraid to make the heatsink. but a chinese guy told me he could make a perfect one for 60$ . how can i attach a picture? he sent me a picture of that heatsink and fan control circuit for free..
"I would send my girlfriend to the doctor yes, but not to Dr SVL7haha."
omg hide this comment if he see's this he will go mad.
This is the fan control
The one on the right is the custom made heatsink , Il post the temps and benchmarks later

I would still consider going for a new card, even though it may cost your more than the possibility of fixing it you cannot tell 100% that it is going to be a bad Vbios or that baking it will results in positive results. Even if it does work for how long? If you cannot get one second hand online you could easily contact AsusPartsEU or MXMUpgrade and see if you can get your hands on a new 5870M, or as you mention you could attempt the 6970M experiment as there have been several accomplished attempts so far.
''If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway'' -
yes the chances are less but worth a try because it costs a little. than buying for huge prices.
-
For the cost of getting vbios chip removed, reprogrammed, put back in, time testing, and not knowing if it'll even work, I think picking up a second hand one off ebay would be more sensible.
Not too expensive either, one on there today for $180 or offer... apparently works though the guys use of extreme text enlargement disturbs me somewhat. Then you can use your current heatsink, and should work fine.
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
As more people upgrade to 6870/6990 on their G73JH's there should be more cards floating around. -
Thanks for the info, But he have mentioned that he doesnt accept returns,
if the card was not working , omg $$$ gone.
are you sure that the owen trick doesnt work on hd 5xxx series because I recently saw a video a guy bakes a 9600gt and it comes back into life, and it was a ACER LAPTOP. -
Otherwise I am sure a perfectly good 5870 will pop up on ebay soon, and if it's from someone who's upgraded their G73JH there should be nothing wrong with it. Actually if the radeon 7xxx series works on the G73Jh there might be ALOT of older cards going... -
Solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
