    Hello good sirs and gals,

I have a problem with my G53SW. The power button works fine but as soon as I close the lid, all hell breaks loose.

When the laptop is on, if I close the lid, the screen will go black, the lights will remain on. I have to force shut down the laptop. Then, the laptop won't turn on for the next 10 minutes or so. NOTE: This is with the settings set to "Do Nothing". If I set it to standby, the same result presents itself.

When the laptop is off, if I close the lid, the power button simply won't function. I doubt a motion detector is involved, nor have I heard of any security measures mentioned by other G53/G73 owners. The laptop will simply stay dead for a period of time after I close the lid.

Then, after a period ranging from 10 minutes to an hour, I'll press the power button and voila! It works again.

Removing the battery and holding down the power button does not help.

I don't even understand what the problem is. I mean.. the whole point of a laptop is to be able to move it around, no? Is this a software or hardware problem?

    Please help me,

    to infinity and beyond,

    Kai/Convenant

I would reset the BIOS, and reset the Power Plans to defaults. Then see if it works normally. If so, then adjust to your tastes. If not, RMA time.

Hi. My first G53sw had problems with powering up. Pressing the power button did not power the laptop sometimes. Then it would work after a few minutes. I did an exchange, and new one is fine. If bios update does not help, get an exchange if possible or RMA it. Good luck.
