I decided to do a repaste today. Since my laptop crashed a lot because of overheating. I followed some videos on youtube and read forums and all that, so i was well prepared. And while disassembling nothing went wrong. I did the repaste, connected all the wires, screwed all the screws back in. And now i cant restart and im screwed!!! My laptop only gives the batterycharge light. And when i push the powerbutton that light goes out for 3-5 seconds, and thats all that happens. Is this bad? I can't believe this is happening since nothing went wrong during the process, and i was being extremely carefull... Help me out plz guys!!

this is the kind of case where no one but you can help. A repaste is to be done at your own risk exactly because of situations like this. Its unfortunate for you, but nobody knows what you did wrong and no one can diagnose a problem like this without seeing the laptop.

    Good luck

Recheck all your cables. Make sure they aren't pinched or touching and components. Make sure none are touching anything in the area around the power button, I remember reading that that will cause your problem.

No one can help you because he repasted?. This is a support forum not a criticise forum Polish Pat...

Firstly stop panicking it could be anything from a wire not being plugged back in properly to the most common problem which is you have your Wireless Cables over the reset button I did this myself. If the battery light is showing when you have the charger in and when you hit the power button nothing happens or it goes out its going to be that.

There is a bit of sticky tape that holds the wireless cables away from the small round button underneith it sadly its easily missed when you stick the monitor back on and you leave the wires over it.

Disassemble again carefully and move them.

I don't think its a wire over the reset button. If that was the case, NO lights would come on, including the charge light.

You can try actually resetting it first. You could also remove the power cable and battery and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, this can help too.

Otherwise, I'd say there is another disassemble in your future, to ensure that everything is plugged in and seated correctly.

Thnx for the reactions guys I will take another (carefull) look. Are the wireless cables those black and white cables you see in your backpanel. In the first area you open next de your hard drives and ram memory, because if those are the cables. They don't seem to be touching anything. There is no tape anywhere around them though.

As mentioned it is over the reset button it is not the bottom it is on the top as the wires go through the motherboard....You need to disassemble to get to it.

But if you want to listen to the other chaps who are telling you im wrong feel free after all what do I know :) Check all your connections as well it could be shorting.

Worse case scenario you could do a CMOS battery reset with a pin it is located on the underside of the motherboard you will also need to disassemble. Lastly try a power drain, battery and AC cable out hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and put everything back together.

However, I stand by what I said I reckon its your wireless cables.

ok I feel like I got myself a step further. I disassembled it again. Took a look at it. Nothing seemed to have gone really wrong so I just made sure Those cables werent going over my restart button. Now when i push the powerbutton. The blue lights also go on for a second or two. But thats about all the power that seems to go through it!

Sounds like what happened to me. Your motherboard is broken. I hope it's not, but I'm almost certain it is. With mine, after my 1st repaste, I would hit the power button, all the lights would come on, the fans would go full on, and that's it. I had to send mine in to get repaired. I had a really hard time tearing it down the 2nd time to put in the 920XM. I was so nervous.

Hopefully it's just the wifi cables laying across the CMOS reset button keeping it pressed down.

I know its probably not good to do, but its just for testing. But i figured out my laptop starts up when its opened and asks for a booting device(obviously). I opened it till i could see the top of my motherboard. What to do?

If it is now turning on make sure the wireless cables are taped away from the reset button and then reassemble. Could have been a loose cable or connection.

Ok ty so much. Dont know what id done without you guys. I was really freaking!! But its fixed! I dont think it was the wireless cables because I retaped them in a previous reassembling. What i think it was is a piece of tape that was somewhere on the motherboard near my cpu. I'm absolutely not sure of it, but it was the last thing I changed before it started working again. So try this too if you ever run into this problem!!

thx again all (espesially Dallers for not making me despair)

Btw: my gpu runs smoothly and lovely right now it dropped from 90+ to 50° atm. This was totally worth it!

Sometimes when you disassemble replacing everything in its place is not always what you have to do, the wires are positioned in a way to not be touched by the casing or the screws. A common problem of this is the screen cables at the back under the back cover the screws can easily go straight through the cables if you have not repositioned them correctly its always a good idea to double check everything.

Glad you got it sorted might have just been the motherboard not being seated correctly and going back in and checking everything seems to have fixed it for you :)

Okay I just did the final checkup. I did have some troubles just now again with my Optical drive. What happenned was that the wires of my (cpu) fan got scratched, and they hit my optical drive. So for a moment it didn't start up again. So i made these wires follow the right path again and its fixed. Just sharing this stuff for people who encounter the same problems some day. :) Anyway im very happy this is over. I think I dis- and reasambled it for 5-10 times, so soon i will be a pro xD.

    Thx again!!
