So, last night I opened my G73SW to get my daily starcraft on, and there was a 1" by 2" light spot just off of dead center to the lower right. It looked like normal edge light bleed, but in a very noticeable location...

There wasn't anything on the screen, angling the monitor toward the keyboard like I'm closing the laptop made the spot even more pronounced, and altering the brightness of the monitor did nothing to diminish or enhance the spot...

I spent most of the night trying to figure out how I didn't notice it before... It was a considerable distraction. I put in an RMA request with newegg and went to bed. I left the monitor open, unlike the night previous.

I woke up this morning and went in to stare at the spot in disgust before heading into the office, and it's not there anymore. You can see some possible discoloration, but it was minor enough that I had to really try to convince myself that it was even there.

I thought that the brightness of the room this morning, over that of the room at 1:00am might be making the spot hard to see, so I took it into my basement to view the screen in pitch black. I just can't see anything but the minor edge bleed that's common with these particular monitors.

Does anyone have any idea what the hell might have happened? I have a hard time canceling my rma when I really have no idea what caused this issue. The only thing that I could come up with was that closing the monitor either applied odd pressure to the screen in that spot, or that the liquid in the monitor had shifted away from that spot with the angle of the shell, and keeping it open allowed it to return to uniformity...

Any opinions at all would be greatly appreciated.

Anybody have any thoughts? I just received an email from new egg asking if I'd still like them to send the unit back. Should I send it back anyways, and risk the possibility of a worse off unit, or keep it and risk the problem returning and being stuck with a large light spot in the screen?

If you think is bad send it back, get it over with you don't want to be stuck with it, or waste more time if the problem returns

You could take a microfiber cloth and see if you can smooth out that spot.

I was thinking about that. Newegg is sending the shipping label, but it shouldn't be here for a week or so. That should give me more than enough time to determine if it's an issue or not.

Well, I'm back on my G73JH. Newegg sent my shipping label and RMA tag this evening. I'm going to sent it on it's way tomorrow. That probably means I'll see it back week after next if everything goes smoothly. Definitely glad I didn't get rid of this machine before I picked up the new one. Haha! I do miss the 1920x1080 screen, but 1600x900 isn't too shabby.
