So last January, my G51 started having keyboard issues with keys randomly not responding to button presses and such. I went down to the local ASUS RMA depot here in Toronto and they replaced it in 30 minutes and it was fine. Now the exact same thing is happening to the new keyboard they gave me. My warranty ran out in October 2012, and I think it's absolute BS that their flimsy keyboard only lasts a year before having problems again. Hell my old Toshiba is over 4 years old and there have been no such problems with the keyboard or anything. At the very least they should replace this for free because this "new" keyboard barely lasted a year. Has anyone managed to get out of warranty replacements done for free from them? I know they have good customer service and all, and mine is just a minor replacement. A keyboard of all things having such a short lifespan is beyond me.

I would just buy a keyboard for $40 and swap it out myself, it's not worth the hassle. They will probably charge you $40 or more just to look at it.

Who are the asus reps on the forum?
Also buying a keyboard for 40 bucks, I would rather buy an external usb keyboard and just use that since my laptop is basically a desktop now.

Not a chance, My GPU died in my G60vx, I had to send that off to repair, and that cost £370 all in for a brand new 260GTX in June last year. However since getting it, the temps have been a looooot lower. Also they would not replace the keyboard when the buttons and lights stopped working for free, they wanted £100 for it. i got one from china for £30. same model and everything. $500 for new gpu and $50 or so for new keyboard.

They wouldnt give me nothing for free, regardless.

If the warranty on the laptop is up I don't see a reason why they would owe you anything, most companies will warranty work done for 90 days or the balance of the original warranty, whatever one is greater. And since your warranty expired in October 2012 I personally would look for something for free or give you a keyboard for free.

The keyboard they put in was probably a refurb anyways, things break, its what happens. If two keyboards have failed on you it could very well be something you're doing, such as the way you use the computer. I know everyone says that they treat their laptop with kid gloves, but thosee same people that are saying that put their laptop through a lot of stress.

    1) They wouldn't use a refurb kb, as they're not expensive in bulk :)

    2) Asus has a 90-day grace period after warranty end that the reps can service the system, at rep discretion. This is why I suggested contacting Customer Care.

Well honestly the two keyboards failed on me and I do play quite a few games, that's probably why, but it is a gaming laptop after all and a keyboard failing after 1 year is kind of unacceptable to be honest. Anyway I was going to run down to the RMA depot here in Toronto but apparently they have stopped doing laptop repairs there. I think a walk in would've sufficed in them giving me a new keyboard for no charge. I wen't out and bought a new usb keyboard today and I emailed the ASUS folks from that link Chastity posted. I hope they can just send me a replacement keyboard because I can put it in myself in like 10 minutes. I don't want to send my laptop out to RMA for a month just for a new keyboard that I may not get.

Also just as a side note, it's not only the keyboard that has failed on this laptop. There were a bunch of other things that had to be replaced in a 2 year period. 3 months into my purchase I had to do a screen replacement due to dead pixels, random white patches on the screen. The second screen also failed within 2 weeks with a line of dead pixels going through it. This is the third screen now and it's working fine. The headphone jack also got stuck at one point which also got replaced. I mean there has been issue after issue for this notebook which I resolved during the warranty period, and now I'm mostly just keeping it at home as a "desktop" until I manage to build an actual one. Heck it's kind of useless now anyway as a laptop now that it doesn't have a working keyboard.
