Just wondering if I missed a post to fix this problem "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" I've had this for almost a year and pretty much given up. Almost punched my laptop a few times when I was in a critical moment when playing a game.

Well a little bit more info would sure be helpful. Model of laptop, graphics card, and version of drivers.

    G51VX-X2A
    GEFORCE GTX 260M (2.1 i think) or 8.15.11.8631

I went to drivers site and it said that the drivers don't need an upgrade or it's the highest version.

I had the same problem with my G51Vx-A1, turned out to be a faulty GPU.
Send your laptop to warranty repairs, got mine back with a new GPU in a week and I haven´t had a problem since then.
