When I connect my headphones to the headphone jack while listening to music, there is a noticeable echo

I have all audio settings in the realtek control panel on default, no environment more has been set or anything like that.

I have installed 3 diff. driver versions and they all sound the same

    please help

    Drivers I tried:

    6.01.6899
    6.01.6909
    6.01.6937

This doesn't happen when I connect my external speakers. Only the headphones

WOW! Guys! I solved it!! It was the headphones that were spoiled!!

I thought of this because this problem didn't happen when I plugged in the external speakers. So I plugged in new headphones and VOILA! Problem solved! no more echo :)

Probably a faulty wire or jack. I've lost count of the jacks/wires that broke on me when using cheap headphones.

By cheap, I meant up to 50$ in ears, BB headphones probably fall into that category. I commute a lot and I usually went through a pair in 4 to 6 months, be they standard ipod headphones, sony in ears, etc. I wasn't particularly rough with them, but I didn't baby them either.

Yeah, they are built to break so you buy a new pair quicker :/

I wouldn't go as far as saying built to break, but they definitely aren't built to last. Let's just say that the pair of headphones I got right now is much more sturdy and paid itself just by not having to replace them every 4 months. They aren't in ears, but I dropped them, sat on them, tossed them into my laptop backpack a number of time, etc. and they are still very much alive and kicking. My many cheap in ears didn't even have to go through that and still broke in a short amount of time.
