    Hi all,

So I reinstalled Windows and put the same drivers I've always had onto the machine. I tried following the http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/388422-guide-smooth-windows-7-g50vt.html but I still have one problem that still exists with my screen brightness.

My brightness works fine when I first boot, and continues to work until I close the lid.

After closing the lid and opening it again the screen brightness is locked to a certain value, and any brightness sliders (say in Windows Mobility Center) go from 0-100 instead of 0-15 and either lock at 0 or 100. The screen brightness itself stays at whatever value it had previously. I can only change the screen brightness if I restart the machine.

I have tried several video drivers and the stable ones all give me the same result. I have a feeling this is related to something with the way the lid works with the system but I don't know for sure.

Usually the brightness either always or never works with these things. I don't know what to do in this situation.

    Things I've tried:
-Installing the Win7/Vista versions of ATK0100/Hotkey drivers
-Installing new versions of Forceware (26x.xx/25x.xx/198.xx/197.xx).

    Any ideas? Please help me!

EDIT: Apparently this isn't an issue isolated to Asus machines. Mods if you this should be moved this to a more relevant forum, feel free.

Is there an award for mods, AllUrGroceries? You're everywhere :)

Turns out it was something with the graphics drivers. I had to use LaptopVideo2Go drivers originally because standard nvidia drivers don't work, but I ended up modifying INF files from an official nvidia installer, and forced the driver to accept my subsystem by deleting parts of entries.

So two reinstalls and three reimagings later, everything is solved thanks to official drivers. Running 266.58 and all is well.

Anyone who has this problem in the future
: just reply to this thread or PM me and I'll help you out.

I believe you need DirectConsole to take advantage of the OLED screen.

Did you install the latest nvidia drivers?

It's ok, it took the electrical engineering major several hours of frustration to pinpoint that problem one time. :)
