I have been a proud owner of the G53SW since the end of June, and it has been great! Playing games on high-very high settings is a breeze! However, in the last two weeks, a lot of problems started to happen. I was hoping to see if anyone could help me out!

It started with the computer crashing during gameplay, on games like sc2 and LoL, but I updated all my graphics drivers and all that, and they seem to work… for now.

BUT! This morning, when I went to turn on my G53, the laptop said “Reboot and Select proper Boot device. Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.”

My laptop would say this every once in a while, and usually I just reboot it once or twice, then it works again. But this time the problem seems to be more permanent!

I even tried running the Asus AI Recovery disc, and it said no hard drive found.

After many tries, however, it booted up normally. Does anyone know why this problem would intermittently happen? Thank you for all your help!

Sounds like a bad hard drive take it out and format it in a desktop or see if it even works anymore

the hard drive still works, just not all the time :(, because sometimes it boots to windows just fine, and everything goes smoothly.

i turned it on at lunch and it was fine, but every time i turn it on, its a gamble lol. is there anything i can do to get it to consistently boot?

    thanks for all your help!

Do you have a disc in the optical drive. If you have it set to boot from that drive first (default option) and you have a disc in it that its trying to boot from that could cause that error.

If not, i agree with joshanator, the hard drive is either bad or going bad.

I am having similiar issues and I am most certain that my drive is failing.

The best way to find out if you have bad sectors is to run a HDD test by running either HDD TUNE or S.M.A.R.T and check the health tests and check the health warnings.

My primary has several warnings and my bad sectors increase daily I am getting iratic performance issues and random lock ups, luckily my SSD will arrive in the morning! I would also get that warning you are facing during boot after the lockup happens, it seems to not register the HDD after a crash like it is not getting power to it or turning it on and I have to restart several times before it finally boots. All of the symptoms are not good signs.

If it is your HDD that is shot and you dont have an SSD people seem to swear by this upgrade so it might be a blessing in disguise for you. :)
