Thermal shutdown occurs when the Core (TSS0) hits 114C, and the machine goes into shutdown for a fixed amount of time to let the components cool. I would seriously suggest doing a repaste and insuring that all your mounting screws are clamped down solid. You can also clean out the vents while you have the unit disassembled.

Under full load I hit 78C as a max temp while I game. The cooling system in these new ROG units is quite efficient, but only when things are done properly and contacts secure. The stock paste, if things are not secure, seems to dry out in 1-2 months, and temps will steadily rise during this time period.

Not really that difficult finding AS5 it down here in Mexico, I got some, it all depends where do you live, PM and I can give you some advices where to get it, or may even send you some...

Idling at 70+ No bueno at all... so get those vents clean and if still high... well time for doing a repaste.

Same issue like me, bought since april, i just got it from RMA, my suggestion is DONT DISASSEMBLE YOURSELF because once u do that, your keyboard LED LIGHT is gone too, void the warranty either ! WORK well after RMA !

HUH??? If done carefully should not run into any issues. Mine is working 100% functional after disassembling it myself. Warranty will get void if you something like removing the warranty seal next to the CPU...

haha you are just unplugging the cable while disassembling it. Plug it in after you are done with the repasting and everything is fine :)
Of course dont repaste if you are not familiar with these things.
