Ok so i am looking at buying either the g53sw-a1 or the g53sx-a1. I was sold on getting the g53sx-a1 until i found out that naked eye 3d wasnt coming to the US. I am trying to find out which one of these two will be better for FSX. So any help possible would be greatly appreciated. This is gonna be my first Gaming laptop ever. Also i have to have this laptop before Aug 19 cause i will be needing it for college. So based on your experiences do you think the g53sx-a1 will be delayed or released on time.

In short which one will run Flight Simulator X better.

    Eyeless 3D? :D

Well, the G53SW has a 192bit GPU, compared to the 128bit in the G53SX, so the G53SW should be faster.
If you're not in a hurry, you could wait until someone does a review comparing both.

Can't tell exactly until the G74 or G53SX benchmarks start coming in (which should be soon). Until then it's speculation.

That, they might actually come pretty close to each other. The G74SX will have a 192-bit bus though so that one will be noticeably faster for sure and finally, oh finally a full keyboard.

so is it better to have a 2gb video card or a 1.5 with faster bit bus. I am confused out of my mind trying to figure this out.

You dont need 2GB of Vram you wont use it especially not with the smaller bus.

1.5gb with 192bit bus any day of the week.

The benchmarks may show the G53sx producing some good results but if you want to prolong the gaming life of your laptop when picking an Nvidia card look for a larger bus, larger ROP, and it must have GDDR5. The same applies for ATI but the 5870M showed otherwise because of its fabulous 128bit architecture.

Well, you can't just compare ATI and nVidia GPU on their respective specs alone. They have different architecture. The fact the 5870m has ~ the same bandwidth on a 128-bit bus than a GTX460m with a 192-bit bus is a good indication of said differences.

FYI: I've been informed that a G74SX-3DE will be shipped to me shortly after Formula X, so I'll be able to answer questions when it arrives.

Cool, at this rate, you'll be able to do a run down of all G73s/G74 compared to each other. I just hope there aren't as many kinks to work out as there was with the JH. They got a wicked kb for the G74 though. It would be interesting to see if the G74's palm rest would be swappable with a G73's. The layout seems to be almost identical with the exception of the buttons. I'd love to make myself a FrankenG73JH if there's not too much modding involved hehe. I'll have to add that to my list of potential crazy mods.

It is a good choice my new notebookreviewer! :D

You can then look into upgrading it with an SSD and more RAM if needby for still less than what the G74 will cost you.

Hang on to the cash until you need it because the G73SW will happily sail way into 2013 and even if it did start to struggle in a year or two you could always throw in a sandy XM if that happens, and doing that will cause the lights in the local power plant to flicker :p
