Alright, I'll try and make this as detailed as possible so I can try and get this problem fixed ASAP. Here it goes..

Everyone loves that sound can come out of their PCs, right? Well I somehow lost that luxury. One late night while slightly intoxicated, I uninstalled my sound card in an attempt to fix some audio issues I was having. I uninstalled and restarted my laptop, everything reinstalled fine and I restarted just to be sure everything would be running okay, but sadly, it wasn't. I have the dreaded red X over my volume control..

    See... no bueno

I tried reinstalling the drivers and tried calling Windows Support. They're never much help though, IMO. They basically just suggested I call Realtek, as that's who makes my sound card, HOWEVER Realtek just gives you the option of emailing and I haven't heard back from them in three days.

    Anyway..
When I left-click my volume control, nothing happens, when I right-click and go to Sounds> Playback, I see this. Notice my speakers are set as the default device. I right-clicked on Realtek Digital Output to show this as well: I cannot set a default device. There no option in the right-click menu, nor is the option available in the lower right hand side of the window.

    More no bueno..

Just so you guys know, my sound card is enabled in device manager:

My limited knowledge of computer repair as been expelled. So here I am asking for help. If I missed something, please let me know and I'd be happy to answer so I can get rid of this irritating enigma.

Also, here's a screen shot from Speccy showing some of the details of my PC:

I'd really appreciate any help you all can give.

    Hi cFKNj, welcome to NBR!
The Icon you posted means the Mute is turned on. You should have a function key to toggle this on and off. Look for it on you F keys and hold down Fn and press that key, hope that works :)

In response, forgot to add this.. lol
I can't control the volume at all. A left-click doesn't bring up any audio controls, they hotkeys for my audio don't work and furthermore, when I right-click and go to Open Volume Mixer, this comes up:

And System Restore was disabled at the time for whatever reason.. :(

It's the Asus G51VX BesyBuy model.
Tried installing the audio drivers off the ASUS website, nothing though. Problem still exists.

OK I'm moving this to the gaming forum.

Do you have any creative or realtek drivers installed in your programs & features in control panel?

I do. It's listed as Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.

Why not download and run Driver Sweeper 3.1.0 to uninstall the leftover Realtek stuff, and then install Realtek's 2.62?
