I just bought a new external monitor today so I could use a dual monitor setup with my G73. The only problem is my G73 has a female vga output on the side and my monitor uses DVI-d. I have found vga to dvi convertors but they are all DVI-A. I was wondering if anyone here knew where to find a VGA male to DVI-D converter. I have searched everywhere and can't find one. Thanks for the help.

Return the Monitor and get one with HDMI...

Or it is not worth useing it.. VGA looks bad once u get HDMI going...
Yes you can see the differance....

a GOod HDMI Monitor is less then $200

Well this is the monitor I bought http://www.asus.com/Display/LCD_Monitors/VG236H/. It does have HDMI but would a HDMI to DVI-D work the same as a VGA to DVI-D? I thought it would just display what is on the G73 on the monitor instead of a true dual monitor setup. My G73 has both a HDMI out along with a VGA out.

So I could have a hdmi cable coming out of my laptop and going into my monitor with a dvi-d convertor and it would be two seprate screens? I'm using a ATI 5870 BTW. Thanks for the help.

Or the Catalyst Control Center if you are using a G73JH ;). Yes to the above question, some monitors also have HDMI in so an adapter wouldn't be needed.

I swear when I got home I tried the HDMI out going into the HDMI in on my monitor and it just replicated what was on my laptops screen. However I just tried it and it worked fine!

Thanks for the help but have one more question. My monitor is 60hz unless it is running through the dvi-d cable. So If I took my xbox and ran it with a HDMI cable with a HDMI to DVD-D converter would it run at 120hz?

It will that is working correctly to change it you need to:

Right click -> Screen Resolution

You will have the option which shows on the image below as extend these displays to duplicate or run either the desktop on the external screen or on the laptop and vice versa, tick make this my main display depending on which screen you want the desktop. Just use the HDMI cable from the laptop output into the screen, VGA output is stone age and the quality will be poor. The output will be 60hz not 120hz and an Xbox 360 can only produce a max output of 1080p at 60hz max.

Yeah right now I'm using an HDMI cord but I will be using a HDMI to DVI-D Dual link to have my xbox hooked up to my monitor. I just hope that because my computer runs DVI at 240hz that it will still run that fast with my xbox hooked up to it. I dont see why it wont though.
