This is pretty much a question for Bad Company 2 players, as others probably won't be able to help.
So I've got the g73jh and I seem to lag a lot in this game. I can run the game fine on low, but once I turn it to medium, it starts to lag-ish. I have tried low resolutions, but it still persists.
It's not faulty hardware, as I can play LoTRO maxed, Dead Space 2 maxed, and pretty much everything maxed or near maxed.
It's just Bad Company 2. MOSTLY on Oasis map with conquest.
So that's my problem, and I'm looking for any help. I say lag-ish because the FPS only drops to 45 and I start stuttering already. I have played games on 30 before, but for some reason BC2 lags around 45-50. Ideally, I do not need to raise the framerate, I just need it to be smoother looking. From experience, 45 should not be this stuttery, but it is for me.
Thanks for any help, tricks, or tips.![]()
P.S. Is it possible that Frostbite 2 (Battlefield 3) would perform better? I still have hope that they can optimize Frostbite 2 to play 5-10 FPS smoother on my machine than Frostbite 1 did.

Strange. I get awesome FPS maxed out.
Can't tell ya. -
I don't know what you're talking about Kaelang. Either you play single player or play on the lowest resolution. The game runs like garbage. It's just another example of a game mass produced for 14-16 year olds with consoles and ported over with minimal effort to PC. Left4Dead2 looks just as good if not better and runs at solid 100 FPS on highest settings with full AA and MSA. There's really no excuse for BC2. So no, there's nothing wrong with your hardware blah, that's just the gaming industry for you.
-
What is awesome FPS to you? Many people game on 30 FPS, but that's horrible in my eyes.
And yes, Phnx, maybe that is just the case. Hopefully, BF3 will actually be optimized correctly for PC. -
Go to Settings.ini and turn off bloom.
-
Tried the bloom thing. Doesn't make a difference for me. Did it make a big difference for you? I'm not looking for an extra FPS, I need at least 10 more to play smoothly.
The game is NEARLY unplayable at this state. Only a handful of maps are lag-free enough have fun in. The other maps seem to lag a lot in certain areas, especially Oasis. -
Playing maxed out, aa on 4x I think. 1600x900 res. Don't know exactly what my FPS is but even on full rooms I only lag in very intense explosions (like a chopper crashing into my tank and both blowing up).
Even when I had the 1920x1080 screen, I still had great FPS. Don't know what's wrong with yall. Even if it is 30, looks fine to me.
VSYNC is on and Shadow Quality is medium. Shadow quality in every game I've ever played has made a HUGE difference. Even going from high to medium in most games produces the most minimal change in apparent graphical quality, but REALLY helps FPS. It's an ATI thing from what I understand. -
I play at high/1080p without much trouble, tho shadows are at medium. Only when there's a smokescreen and explosions and gunfire at the same time do I get lag, and certain maps are better than others at handling it.

change your drivers ..i had the same problem i use 10.6 ccc now all is fine works a treat ..wish they sort this touch -pad out ..i love this laptop but the touch-pad sucks ..
-
I am using CCC 10.10 plays smooth no lags, graphics settings at 1920x1080 everything high and 4x AA:

28 fps is hardly "smooth."
While that is in a firefight, it's not during a moment of intense special effects. Wait until you get to the part where the mortars start hitting the city, or where you are driving a tank. SUPER bad framerate problems.
it's not that 30 frames per second is bad, if it were consistent %96 percent of the time. It's that below 50 fps, any amount of framerate stutter is unbearable. -
I never notice any of the above, clstirens.
-
-
If it stays consistent, that's good. Oddly enough, I'm used to getting between 47 and 86 fps (the low fps being on large maps like Oasis)
However today I went to test it, just after I posted that, and I'm getting 100+ fps consistently. Heavy firefights, explosions, buildings collapsing, etc etc.
I'm using the G73jh i7 740 -
You fellas got links for the older 10.6 or 10.10 drivers? They aren't on the official ATI sites anymore.
-
Karlang, what happened to your 1080p screen? You upgraded right? Did you then go back to your original monitor?
On another note, does everyone like BFBC2 a lot? I keep wishing I'd bought it on steam holiday sale for $7 but I didn't. Black Ops sucks, and I'm looking for something to fill my killing urges, Team Fortress 2 just doesn't do it for me. The game looks like a cross between Halo and COD, vehicles like Halo, weapons like Modern Warfare. I wish there was a demo. -
And yes, BC2 is a great game. It has its bugs and moments, for sure. The hitbox lag is the biggest pain in the tookus ever (lolgetting shot by an AR after I duck behind a metal shipping crate? Yeah, right). -
-
-
I play BC2 maxed out with 8XAA at 1600x900. Smooth as butter.
-
i play bc2 with 16xaa at 1920x1080.. getting 32-40 fps.. with new 11.2 driver...
-
So is the game worth the $20 or should I wait for the next steam sale (which could be tomorrow or could be in 6 months). I'm about to jump, someone push me off.
-
I'd get it now.
-
I'd get it now also and ofc the vietnam expansion
-
I've heard the audio is pretty good on this game. Is this true? Does it support 5.1 or 7.1? Dumb question, but black ops is stereo only, what a joke, I just want to be sure.
-
The audio is very neat. It does support surround sound.
If you listen to someone play without watching, it feels a lot like a battle scene from some modern shooter, like "Black Hawk Down." -
Yeah the audio (and game in general) is very good, the random comments still make me laugh ('i think you got him!', 'eat that mother!')
I'm hearing that people are seeing improvements in bc2 with 11.2? -
OK, I bought it, downloading now.
So what is everyone screen name?
Any tips for a new guy?
Dang, I wish someone had told me about this on December 20th when it was on sale. I cannot believe I paid $36 for CoD:Black Ops.
The audio on this game rocks. I can actually hear enemies approaching, tell where stuff is coming from, etc, etc, unlike Black Ops which sounds like a Jr High student mixed the audio. The graphics are pretty impressive too. I'm getting around 40fps in multi-player.
It will take some getting used to compensating for bullet drop, but it adds a lot of realism, as a former Marine 0331 I can vouch for how far your bullets will fall over a distance.
See you all out there.
