Hello, i have recently been having major FPS issues playing Rift on medium ( 15-20fps ) so i updated my driver from 10.2 to 11.2 and i got BSODed after 5 minutes of gaming, so then i flashed my vbios like recomended and i also found version 11.4 wich alot of people reported great sucess with.

So here is my problem, now with all those settings and Twinturbo mode on and my power usage set to max performance, at medium i still only get 20-25 fps.

My friend with with the exact same laptop as mine runs on Ultra at 40-50fps i purchased my G73J from NCIX.

So my question is, what can i do to increase my fps while playing Rift? its kind of silly to have spent 1900$ on a gaming laptop with so many problems and that i cannot run a game well, heck i run team fortress 2 at medium at 20fps. i dont know what to do its really bad and it messes with my gaming performance.

ok since you did the vbios update that should be good.....no BSOD's after right?...and regarding the 11.4 preview drivers....I am assuming you got the mobility modded right?...not the desktop variant.also did you uninstall old ATI drivers before you update to new ones?....sometimes this can cause problems so I would recommend uninstalling your drivers and do a reg sweep...ccleaner is a good proggy to do this....then install new drivers. How are your temps durring gaming?...this might be a factor also.Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the more we can help... :).....also turn twin turbo off....this actually lowers performance!

Are you running on battery? Power settings on high? It seems that there are so many variables, that simply stating "OMG It's not the same as someone elses" isn't very helpful.

He may have the exact same laptop, but may be running on a different resolution. Or turned off twin turbo - there are many threads about the intel vs. asus overclock, and how intel is better. Or have forced options in CCC that override the application settings. Or have windows power management settings tweaks.

Why not ask him to take a look at your laptop? If he's getting 40-50fps, and you're not, it seems that he might be in a better position to help you out.

Without further information, based on your post, I'd blame say it's a pebkac issue, not a hardware one.

that is the only thing i installed i dont know if i have to install something else or if thats mobility mod is an addon ive no clue

cant ask him since he now lives in another state and hes not tech savy at all he just brings in his laptop to bestbuy and has them update it

Hey there, i dont have much knowledge in electronics but im a big gamer, had alot of troubles with my FPS in RIFT too, i strongly beleive it was because of the high temperatures i was getting. Since i repasted, i was able to get to 45 FPS on ULTRA graphic settings.

    Hope that helps.

I've noticed that the ATI chips don't throttle with high heat, they just shut down. Nvidia and Intel are really aggressive about throttling, though.
