Ok so, i bought the Asus G73J with the i7 Q820 CPU or whatever couple of months back. I immeadedly tried to update my drivers and first uninstalled it by using the ATI Catalyst Install Manager and booted up. I had of course first downloaded i think the 10.1 full software+driver installer or something like that.

So i installed that and booted up but my resolution was still some weird one and i couldnt even find the ATI program from my computer. I uninstalled it again and installed the native driver that is in the CD that came with the comp.

I tried this again couple weeks back now using some program someone recommended to wipe all ATI files before trying to install new one. Still i managed to fail at this. Like it hadnt even installed the ATI manager and the driver even though the installer took some time and installed stuff?

So what I am asking is that maybe someone could give me simple hand to hand instructions and a link to some stable driver. I did google instructions and followed them but something always goes wrong.

    Thank you

First Uninstall all your ATI drivers. I personally didn't wipe the files after rebooting but you better. Get Driver Sweeper from Guru3D... run it in safe mode. Than Restart. Go to the ATI SIte and download from here.

    ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

Download Option 1. Than run the installer and ATI will download the actual driver and click on the new downloaded driver to install.. Remember the folder where the driver was downloaded and click from there.... delete the driver than... wasting hard drive space otherwise.

I have the G73 and i would HIGHLY recommend not upgrading the video driver. It results with constant Grey screens. Its an issue not fixed by ATI yet. I tried updating to see and scared the hell out of me when i thought i couldnt find my old driver. so just a heads up

Thanks for the answers, I did everything like sean473 said and got them installed correctly. Native resolution and all that.

But whenever i try to play a game the screen just throws a orange/black screen with horizontal lines. So i guess the stock driver is the only playable one?

I just wanted the performance boost that everyone talks about. Is there any other things i could update on my Asus

Read the stickies - there is a fix, and it's great.

Thanks again, got it working now. I had always thought that updating your vBIOS was something ultra risky but it was a piece of cake :)

BTW is it normal that my 3dmark06 scores have lowered after installing the new drivers? Nothing dramatical but like 150 points: 13300 -> 13150. Or is the problem elsewhere?
