Hi and Happy New Year everyone..

It's been a while since I have been here.. I use to haunt the forums as a W90VP owner back in the day :)

Since then I have owned a few Asus notebooks. Right now I have a g73s which is great except for the throttle issue. I use throttle stop, as Ken suggested to me, but it makes the brick so hot, I am afraid to use it often. Still runs SW:ToR well enough without it , so I am happy.

My 15 yr old inherited my W90vp and it just blew the GPU when Star Wars:ToR put it under some stress! Anyway.. I need another system ASAP.

I don't want another Asus with little issues,, like BIOS or whatever problems, or Goodness forbid, issues I delt with the W90vp! That was a nightmare and was glad Vicious was around to help us all out .

Anyway,, I'm needing the $1500 price point .. Should I still be looking at Asus? Just need a 17" gaming notebook that runs stable and plays ToR smooth like butter. Prefer Nvidia only because of the mobile updates being easier and more often.

Thanks a bunch and look forward to your advice!
    Miss Robin

I like my G73SW as well, but now that I have had one I want to try a Clevo/Sager. As I like the fact you can change or update your video card. Also you get a better GPU for around the $1500 price range.

I always wanted to try a Clevo/Sager, too. I read MSI is doing well now, also. I'm just not sure I want to keep giving Asus all my business.. They are the only laptops I have ever owned.
Its been so long since I kept up to date with it all, I feel overwhelmed on the forums with so much information. If I had a month to make a decision it would be easier to muddle through it all, but I need to buy kind of like yesterday! All of you here usually are the best bet for the quickest and least convoluted recommendations.

    GenTech PC - Customize System

If I was in the market, I would go with this model at that price point. Only drawbacks are no backlight keyboard... and glossy sceen - I will get Matte on my next machine.

My setup sig with benchmark results if you are in the market for clevo/sager. Superb performance.

They are awesome laptops really powerful and run exceptionally cool although the mention of the backlit keyboard is a pain the 270HM being released next year is going to have one :( but if you cannot wait the 170HM will do the job perfectly or the 150 if you would rather 15 inch.

The G74 is the latest and best model Asus have out for gaming at the moment, bang for buck the G73JH is your best option but as you have had problems in the past the G73SW or the G74SX are your best bet.

There are a lot of people recommending Clevo/Sager these days I suppose you need to decide if you are interested in portability. My 170HM weighs about the same as my G73JH I was very suprised and the extra features, upgradability and tons of outputs make it a must buy for a hardcore gamer.

Thank you all for the information!

@yiddo -- It's basically a desktop replacement we need, so portability is not an issue. Clevo/Sager has always been so recommended over the years.. I'm not sure why I swayed away. Upgradability , that's a major selling point and the outputs also. I just want a stable system.

Sometimes you have to move past the flashy bells and whistles of colorful backlit keyboards and such. I think I am there.. Yes, its nice, but who cares when you need that performance in a 25 man raid or when you're quick-scoping that gnarly nemesis. That's certainly not when I want my GPU to overheat or CPU to throttle back.

I'll talk to Ken after the holidays and see what we can come up with - he always comes through for me, just like you fine folk here on the forums!

Happy New Years Eve, All !!

Your welcome and I was in a very similar position when my laptop was stolen. I wanted to see what the high end region was like as I had never had top settings and 1080p before. Its a great place to be.

I also gave up my beloved bells and whistles but when I open the box and this unlabeled completely black piece of equipment stared back with alluminum casing and touchpad with total ease and access to all mechanical components you realise that a backlit keyboard is not enough when you fire it up ;)

My only gripe is the forum as I dont have a lot to say here anymore and its my home :( If only Asus would focus on a high end gamers I would certainly be straight back as the bells and whistles well, we all like a few neon lights here and there :D

    Happy New Year.
