My laptop is a G73JH and I have all power options set so the laptop won't enter any low power state unless it is idle for at least 45 minutes.

But when I close the lid while a graphics-intensive program is running
(Starcraft 2, Starcraft 2 Galaxy Editor, Heroes of Newerth, Bloodline Champions)
and I open the lid after a time longer than about 5 minutes, it is in hibernation. I have to power-on the laptop and it has the "resuming windows" thing instead of a full reboot.

    Is this overheating?

note this does not happen unless the lid is closed, i can run games for hours. why would it happen only on lid closed?

That's the reason... take note of it. Happens each time in a new copy of windows.
