Good morning all, a typical "How's it run" thread from me.

So as we all know, Homefront was just released. While single player FPS bores me to hell, the multiplayer is what really catches my eye.

This is why I ask: Has anyone had a chance to run through the game since its been released? Specifically on the G73.

The system req's are pretty shallow, so I have no doubt it will run. Apparently it's a dated engine and doesn't seem to demand too much from the system.

    Homefront Minimum system requirements
    · Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
    · Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 2.8GHz
    · 2 GB RAM
    · Shader Model 3.0 graphics card with 256MB of memory
    · NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS or ATI Radeon 1900XT
    · 10GB of free hard drive space

    Homefront Recommended system requirements
    · Windows Vista or Windows 7
    · Intel or AMD Quad Core 2 GHz+ CPU
    · 2 GB RAM
    · NVIDIA GeForce 260 or ATI Radeon 4850
    · 10 GB of free hard drive space

Any first impressions are welcome! If they're generally positive I may grab a copy from Steam and would love to hit up some multiplayer with you guys!

    Thanks

I'm looking forward to it too, I'm tired of the frustrating COD multiplayer (spawn kills, killstreaks, campers, hackers, ...) and was thinking it could replace that multiplayer in my case. Can't wait for some feedback on how the game is and how it runs on our machines!

It looks like it's using the Unreal 3 engine. Personally I know that Unreal 3 and Bulletstorm both run incredibly well on my G73. I don't think there's going to be a problem.

Also, the PC version of the game was done by Digital Extremes and they're not too far from where I live. Yay Canada.

Unreal engine FTW! But some people say the graphics are dated... :( I hope not.... And yay for digital extremes! I'm near Montreal so it's not that far :)

Bulletstorm is , but I love deathmatchs. I win maybe 70-80% of my games on COD since I started playing more and started using better weapons, but I can't enjoy a game where (it happens often) I die and drop nade, respawn and that same nade and die again. The spawns are ridiculous is COD (I don't own Black Ops, only MW2 because I had it free with my g73) and the matchmaking keeps getting me into 100+ ping games

I think the game looks great, but it's best if you judge it yourself, I'm personally gonna wait 'till Battlefield 3 comes out :p

Ok I have just played through the first 3 chapters. Firstly great game.

The graphics are good nothing over the top but there is a lot of physics going on in the game they have compensated the textures for physics and I have to say the frames im getting for the settings are very good. Its got all the good bits in a shooter and a good story behind it buuuuuut I dunno if COD fanboys are going to like it.

Sounds hmmmm i dunno it all sounds very out of place some noises you cant even see and the guns do make different noises but they all seem very similiar. To much of a bad thing maybe as there are a lot of different weapons with different scopes you discard of them very quickly and pick up another. I would rather have one good gun and maintain using it.

    My settings:

    1920x1080P

    Texture - Very High
    Shadows - Very High
    Shader - Very High
    World - Very High
    AA - 4x
    AF - 4x
Blur - Off (it ruins the FPS)
DOF - Off (Again ruins the FPS)
    Ambient Occlusion - On
Distortion - off - It just annoys me doesnt make a lot of diff re: FPS
Bloom - On :) yeah baby it looks sweet

Im getting 38-49FPS steady and it does not drop anywhere near 30. With the setup below.

EDIT: Just tested with Very High replaced with High and the frames are 45-57ish steady. Very high is smarter mind but its very smooth at 40FPS.

    8/10 so far enjoying it.

    Your welcome.

Its a good game on single player and Multiplayer now I have got further in im starting to use more of the tech they have throw in.

    Pro's
    Good gun fights
    Realism is quite good
    Lighting and shadows top notch
Atmosphere and storyline are well done
    Scenary is smart and realistic
Multiplayer has lots of options and lots to do - Maps are well made
Grenade explosions are the best I have seen
    Lots and Lots of guns

    Con's
The scenary can be a little repetetive
Guns dont seem real enough or sound real enough
Blood needs some work on it very basic I guess to keep the age down
Character quality looks medium on very high
Textures have a console feeling about them
Vehicle explosions dont look as good compared to grenades - :(
The sound can be strange at time and varies a lot - loud then quiet
Single Player as with most is far too short.

You really do need to be running this at 1080p to enjoy the quality I tried it at a lower resolution and it did not look very nice at all. Even so its well made and optimized and the G73 handles it extremely well even with everything thrown on at 1080p your looking at 25-30fps but a few tweaks as mentioned above and it runs smoothly.

Is it worth buying - Yes
Could it be better than COD or BC - No

Why - Because they are COD and BC :D

Is the game worth $50 or should I wait for a sale?

Its a tricky one also by the fact that I work in £ as im in Britain :) I guess for you that is around £30 here, I personally wouldnt pay that much for it.

    £20 yes £30 no.

This should keep you going till BC3 if you are bored and need something now, although there are some other great games coming out soon.

Maybe try it first in a store or at a friends. It does have a slight console feeling about it just slightly :)

I am not getting any where near this, for very high (about 27-35) or high (about 30-40)

You have the A1 so you too have the 1080p screen. Why do you think my frames are so low?

Really? I see this a lot when I compare my frame rate to others along with Metro 2033 I seem to get much better frames than the norm

Have you tried turning off Blur Distortion and DOF because that is what caused mine to dip to around about yours.

I have replaced the screen on my A1.

Well are you using your OC of 800/1000? Because mine was at stock speeds. Also what CCC are you on, and what screen did you replace on your A1 with? lol

EDIT: yes I had my settings the same as yours.

Yeah 800/1000 just gives me a nice smooth experience it doesnt like having its memory clocked so I just stick to the core.

Im using CCC 11.2 as beta also gave me issues with my drivers.

Dunno bout the screen I just picked one up cheap from Ebay its glossy non glare and does the job :D

Alright well I just beat the game anyways, decided to use an overclock half way to my max, and it did the job nicely, avg of 40fps. I also have CCC 11.2

But man was that game short :eek2:

Yep far too short shorter than any other for me so far or maybe it was just too fast and easy to complete. I guess companies are thinking more about the multiplayer these days another sign of consoles taking over

More reason why Im not fond of First Person Shooters and into games like Metro or the Witcher. Started playing Metro again last night forgot how good it looks.
