    Hey guys,

I purchased Windows 8 pro and installed it on my Asus G750JS. I couldn't connect to the internet after installing Windows 8. So I downloaded the network drivers on my phone and transferred them to my PC via USB. Once connected online I downloaded all the missing drivers from device manager and a few others that enabled functionality like, touchpad, and keyboard lights etc.

All was well until I decided to play Skyrim and it said I must play on low....

I put it back to ultra and it was horrible.

Ran a 3D mark and got under 700 in firestrike.

I checked my drivers and I was running 340.53. I'm currently installing the video drivers from Asus to see if it was the latest update from Nvidia causing my problems, but this is bad. I didn't have this problem before I reformatted, so this problem came from me, I just can't seem to figure it out.

Okay figured it out... sort of. My games aren't seeing my GeForce 870m and it's playing on my Intel graphics rather than Nvidia's. Not sure why, but looking into it. The Nvidia Experience and Windows see's the Nvidia card, but for some reason others won't.

My settings in the Nvidia Control Panel won't save. It keeps defaulting to Intel graphics. Uninstalled Intel graphics and they just keep reinstalling. Tried to disable integrated graphics in bios, but there wasn't any options. Tried disabling integrated graphics in device manager, but when that does that, it defaults my graphics to "generic Windows drivers" instead of Nvidia.

With dual graphics (I hate it) install first the drivers from Asus. Once that is done you can install newer ones from Intel and Nvidia.
Also check that you run the latest BIOS, sometimes they optimize the dual graphic functions in updates.

I decided to reformat my PC. I paid close attention to the drivers I was installing this time. So far so good. I'm currently running 3DMark on Nvidia drivers instead of Intel and all seems well.

So I definitely screwed something up the first time. Not entirely sure what I did, but I don't care anymore at this point. All is well.

Part of me thinks it could be bit defender but not convinced my security was to blame. I'm still reinstalling gigs and gigs of software so well see.

Indeed it is. I think I installed something incorrectly or something that just made it conflict with the haswell graphics.

It was likely a display driver order issue rather than something conflicting. Mostly the only thing that happens are programs triggering the dGPU to wake up when it should not.

I sold the laptop in preparation of the 900m series GPU and when I reformatted it for the buyer I noticed it did the same thing.

Long story short I realized I need to install them in a specific order. I was able to get it going.

What order did you use in the end? Was it integrated first then dedicated?
