I have g750jx ordered, with 770 graphic card, does that series have good mate screen, some people claim that 3d screen is better when buying asus g750

is that 3d mate screen? or 3d gloss

Now I have HP envy 17 with perfect glossy screen with amazing colors

I am thinking now not to buy JX if the screen is so bad and noisy

I got my G750JX today, and of course the first thing I looked at was the screen. It's matte, very bright, with great colors, and I don't think viewing angles are at all bad for a non-IPS screen. It does seem to have a sort of grainy surface, which I assume is the matte coating, and at first I was put off, but after using it for some hours I'd say the effect is more like anti-aliasing than grain. In any event text is sharp, easy to read, and Diablo 3 (the only game I've run so far) looks awesome and plays without a hitch.

What I'm really NOT happy about is that ASUS has used a proprietary version of the nVidia GTX770M that cannot be updated via the regular drivers from nVidia! GeForce Experience says there is a newer driver available and downloads it, but when run the driver says it cannot find a compatible video card and will NOT install.

I seem to remember something similar some years back, and the fix was to edit the .INF file to get the driver to load, but I haven't been able to find that info online yet. If anyone can point me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated.

This may be a deal breaker for me; ASUS is notoriously slow updating drivers and as soon as a new model is announced any work in that area stops on the current models. So if I can't find a way to update using stock nVidia drivers in a day or two I think this puppy, sweet as it is, may be going back to Amazon.

I have read on official asus g750 forum that you need to install beta, check that forum, this really sucks if you can t install latest drivers

some people really complain abou the screen

I was checking it out today and the viewing angle is not good at all, seem to be darker on the edges, this really concerns me, now I have glossy screen which is perfect

This is not an Asus problem, but nVidia. The latest beta drivers, not checked by GeForce experience, do work without any problems, they even boost the performance quite a bit.

The latest official driver can't be installed unless you mod the .inf. However, the last 2 beta drivers install just fine and have no issues that I can see. I expect the next official WHQL driver will also install fine, whenever it comes out.

Thanks for this! I just installed the latest beta with no problem whatever, and noticed a significant increase in the clarity of the screen with the new driver. Edges that were slightly pixelated (grainy or fuzzy) before are sharp as a tack, the color is better as well, haven't tested performance but so far I'm very pleased and as long as I can load the betas I really don't have an issue with the machine.

I'm guessing that you think the next WHQL driver will load because nVidia will put the proper ID for this card into the .INF, is that right? Sure would be nice...

One last word on the screen; as far as I can tell without measuring precisely ASUS' claim of 140 degree viewing angle side to side holds up well. Judging by the example in front of me I don't think most users would find this screen a "horror story" in any way. I'm used to some really good screens (Nexus 7 new model, Retina MacBook Pro, Retina iPad) and while not in that class there's nothing here to be afraid of: not as sharp as glossy, but extremely reflection-free. IMO anyway, which is worth every cent I'm asking for it :) !

Experience from Germany: Asus uses at least two different panels. The Chi Mei CMO1720 or the AUO 219D, both having different strengths and weaknesses. So for every opinion on screen quality please post the panel of your G750.

Thanks, and I agree this panel is not horrible, but some can not get used to the anti-glare coating.

I agree the stock screen is the bad point of Asus G750.
Some info about the stock screen, ChiMei n173hge-l11.

I do not understand, why the attached color profiles of the panel proof, that the screen is the bad point.

They only demonstrate, that the panel nearly covers the SRGB color space, which is what 99% of the potential G750 buyers want and need.

The point, which some people do not like is the aggressive anti-glare coating (and I do not like the TN typical weakness with vertical viewing angles, but this is only me).

The rest of the panel is good and what most people expect from a notebook, that's primarily designed for gaming.

I took a look at an Asus G750JW in Tiger Direct here in Canada the other day, and the screen did put me off. It seemed to have pretty poor viewing angles, in that the colours visibly changed as I moved my head from left to right and with my head facing the middle of the screen the edges looked darker than the middle. I don't know whether that's the anti-glare coating or the underlying panel, but it was certainly an offputting effect. It looked grainy and shimmery too, which I wouldn't really mind too much if the viewing angles were better.

I don't know for sure that the G750JH uses the same panel, but I suspect it does since my experience matches the comments people with the JH have been making here. It would be great if Asus would start selling a version of the G750JH with the superior 120Hz panel in Canada. The current panel really makes me hesitate.

(So right now if you're looking for a laptop with a 780M in Canada you have the choice of an Asus with a crummy screen, an MSI GT70 that overheats, an Alienware that costs a fortune or a Sager that you can't see before you own it. Tough choice!)

I had the matte screen on my prevoius G75VW and it was horrible man. like someone put grease on the screen, colors were faded and whites appear to have dotted colorful rainbow dots if u look close

Then I upgraded to this G750JX with the 3D/Glossy screen and whoaaaaaaaa what a difference. it's like night and day difference man. it is so crisp and colors are perfect! like real life as if you are reading on a real paper not a screen

I love it and it allows you to run on 120 Hz. refresh rate which makes things very smooth

well according to the box the full model code of my asus is G750JW-T5043H running windows 8 and i have to say the panel is pretty disapointing, i can see lots of vertical lines in the screen and looks a bit fuzzy in places, also no matter what i try like turning off auto dimming etc the screen will dim after about 20 seconds.

it has a gtx765m and an i7-4700hq inside which im happy with, just a shame about that screen.

could i just get a glossy screen and replace it for the matte one myself?

Weird. I bought the Jx and have had zero issues with it so far. The screen is better than I was expecting. No blurry image or lines anywhere. What supplier did you get it from?

The screen used can be different, you could check the hardware id in device manager.

I replaced the matte screen on my G75 with a glossy one about a month ago. Don't see why it couldn't be done on a G750. I got my glossy screen here: https://www.screencountry.com/index.php

The none 3d G750 machines will use the standard port and replacement of the screen should be the same as the earlier asus machines.

A bit of a strange one tbh, like you say different issues causing the same problem, at one point i was 5 hours straight trying different solutions and cant remember all the other tweaks and changes i tried in that time.
As it stands power4gear is uninstalled as well as splendid and i use nvidia settings to control the appearance of all programs which is what i wanted from day one its just now that the dimming business doesnt come in and gatecrash all my settings anymore

It could be the same bit of firmware triggered by multiple software settings possibly but that seems an odd way of doing things.

So the G750JX doesn't have matte screen and the horizontal lines issues? Is the 3D/glossy screen an option, because this review says it is matte.

Edit: Looks like the glossy screen is a custom BTO option only? BTO might be best just to avoid CA sales tax anyway.

I saw a matte G750JW-DB71 in Best Buy tonight. None of those lines issues, but definitely fugly. Really wish I could see a glossy LCD in person.

Don't know where you are located, but according to discussions at the official ASUS RoG forums, the 3d models aren't available in North America for some unknown reason.

Each region's head office will decide which models they think suit each market.
