I have a router for 5 years and I have a problem on weekends which is the slow wireless network. I used some programs that showed an increase of 20 networks during the week, for 50 networks duraten the weekends. I tried to change the channel but not resolved. My speed improves a lot when I tried to use the cable directly. I'm considering buying a 5ghz router and my doubt is the following:

    1) I need to change my wireless card on my notebook (G73JH - Atheros AR8131)? If yes, what do you recommend? Intel 6300?

    2) I am considering buying the DGL-4500, which router would you recommend? I like playing online, use the torrent and Wii on the same network.

    Thanks.

5ghz? I know the 6300 can do it but it requires 3 antennas not the 2 in the G73 so its not just a simple card swap.

Id go for a 6200 because it will be plug & play without the mod of adding an extra antenna. The 6300 can do a theoretical max of 450mb/s due to the extra antenna (if paired with the right router) while the 6200 is "only" 300mbs since it only uses two.

Id say nobody will ever notice the difference unless they were using there network for file transfer from one pc to another for a lot of files on a regular basis.

No the stock card can't do 5ghz, and it is the 9285 not the 8131
