I am a little nervous because I just RMA'd my G73 laptop into Best Buy a couple days ago because of the static noise issue coming from my speakers. I followed every advice offered in this forum and others but none worked so I went with the RMA. I heard that some RMA took months.. is this true?
I am starting school soon and was wondering whether I should invest in upgrading RAM for my older notebook or just wait it out until I get back my G73.
For those who have RMA'd their G73 in the past, how long did it take? Thanks.

Mines going into the first week already. To be fair, I shipped it out on Wednesday and they didn't get it till Friday. They put it in Repair status but I assume they don't work weekends or labor day, so it's been three days since they got it and little work has been done.
I'm almost positive I'll see something change today (Tuesday) since it's a regular buisness day and there's not much that needs to be done to my laptop. Just a screen replacement and if the tech thinks the screeching my GPU makes is abnormal, possibly a GPU replacement, though I hope that's not necessary. I need my computer back ASAP. It sucks using this Acer. -
Sent it in, got it repaired(replaced motherboard and gpu), and had it returned within the week.
-
77 Hours from drop off to pickup.

Depends. Mine had some a lot of parts that needed to be ordered and some confusion on what parts to replace. Seemed tech was confused about my keyboard, held up repair for days... But because my RMA wasn't in the system and they don't seem to be able to email me, I had to resort to asking Gary why it took it was taking them a week to assemble, which only takes 20 minutes...
But now mine is now taking even longer as during the rush to get packages out, my new requested address to be shipped to was ignored and so was sent to an address where I had moved out of and no longer live. FedEx instead of overnight shipping with a redirected address decided to send it back to California on a very slow express shipping.
So my RMA is looking to be about over a month when it should have taken just a week.
So it all depends, shrug. If it all goes smooth, should be smooth. If it's like my RMA, you're on the verge of screaming and bashing your head into wall after one stupid mistake after another. -
Ground shipping 3 days. A month an a half repair time to replace a motherboard and GPU. Was sent back via FedEx express saver. Arrived in town Friday, FedEx didn't deliver till tuesday. I may be the extremely worse case scenario.

16 business days both times and the repair facility is a 30 minute drive from my house.

I had to deal with Asus in order to get a replacement keyboard to fix the lights (they stuffed the backlight cabling in the slot and bent it) and got them to send out replacement rubber pad.
I'm glad I got it taken care of and its behind me now but I shouldn't have had to gone through with all of this. Besides which I'm probably going to repaste anyways in the future as temps are slowly starting to degrade.
Edit: I live two hours away from the repair center in Indiana. So your distance from the nearest official repair center really won't matter. Unless you go with an authorized service center in which case I'm not sure. -
Five hours later...
Okay, I said screw it, and tore it apart. It took a long time but it worked out without incident. No damage, no real difficulty, just a long duration and a lot of patience. even the keyboard (which I had been terrified to remove) came out pretty easily.
My temps went from 110+C (thermal shutdowns, hard to track absolute max temp) all the way down to 86C at 100% load. -
Sent it in and repaired within one week. they shipped it out but didn't give me a tracking number. After calling they said no tracking number was given but it was shipped out fedex. One week later I get a call and was told fedex had returned it to asus rma facility. Finally sent it back fedex 2 day air with tracking number.
So what would've taken 1 1/2 weeks took 3 weeks because of shipping error. -
-
Well, I shipped it on the 1st, they received it on the 3rd. It's been on "repairing" for three buisness days and I've been without it for over a week (packed it up on the 31st).
-
Sent it out Sept 13, 2010
They received it Sept 15, 2010
Made a call today to confirm the status since on their website it still states waiting. They reassured me that it is getting repaired due to a bricked mother board.
I asked the tech about the turn around time they stated 10-15 buisness day's from the time they received it. -
Next week will make it a whole month for me.
-
My RMA now says, "Waiting for parts", 0% Complete. Yesterday it said "repairing", I think it needs a new motherboard, hopefully that doesn't take long to come in.
-
same here...
-
-
Send it: 23.9. received by them: 24.9. and 25.9. they send me an email that is certify of acceptance of the notebook. Now I am waiting for updates.
-
Mine was received on the 23rd. Now says waiting for parts. We'll see how it goes. BTW, this is in Europe.
-
germany anyone?
-
Mine was dropped off at Best Buy as well and it took 5 days. Dropped it off Sunday evening, and it was ready to be picked up Friday morning. I really don't count Sunday as a day because I dropped it off right before the store was about to close.

Well, I was told the screens would be in by the end of last week or the beginning of this week. It's now the middle of this week and nothing, again.
/sigh -
im waiting now for exactly 20 days...does it really take that long to ship some new mainboards and gpus ?
-
I've been without my laptop for exactly 30 days today, for a screen.
I wouldn't be surprised if it takes longer for MoBo's and whatnot. -
-
damn...then im gonna wait some more time...
-
about 11 days
(including shipping both ways)
-
11 more days you say?^^
-
Hi,
I'm still waiting for my notebook. On Thursday I got an email from them about equipped on my complaint. I assume they will send me my notebook on Monday so I need to wait few more days till finally arrive. -
12 days including shipping. Actual time at Asus was 8 days. Now to see if it works!
-
-
still waiting since 10th september.... 0% repair and waiting for parts WB5
-
They've had it for 31 days (received on the 3rd of September) and I've been without for 35 days.
-
-
Mason said he would let me know when the screens arrive (which was supposed to be 2 weeks ago), so if the screens haven't arrived yet (which I also find kind of silly, it doesn't take this long for a shipment of screens to get here), there's not much Gary can do. If I don't get some update by tomorrow or Wednesday, I'll call them again and see what's going on.
-
I'll call them too in a day or two
-
Kaelang that is horrible!! I thought Gary was suppose to be the top dog here for asus? I guess I was wrong.. nvm contacting him for any support on my notebook. GL Kae hope the best.
Ps: I am also waiting 14 days as of today for my main board to be replaced -
did they tell you when new ones would be shipped?
-
I should be getting mine right before my birthday lol next week it took 14 days on the dot
I hope everything is squared away i hate to do another rma :\ whats the point spending close to 2 grands when you can't even enjoy it? -
they recived my one in 15 sep and the status says its fixed finnaly in 8 oct. Probably i will get it back in monday or so..the strange thing was that the company hwo is fixing it was waiting some kind a support from asus (thats what it was in status page) all that time.
I was pretty sure i had a MB or GPU problem...so they got it fixed by just some information or they just dont update the status page so offten...
Anyway i really hope its fixed...
btw, some of u sayd that u been waiting over a 35 days? why? If it has been 30 they have to replace your notebook or give the money back... -
my RMA for my G73JH-A1 (i bought in the US) took about 27 days to get a new motherboard and CPU (as there was a cpu shortage) but Asus UK did my RMA and kept my warranty intact for my model, even though it was a US made machine.
I even got a new UK keyboard, and newer HDD's -
im still waiting for a new mb/gpu :s
-
has it been longer than 30 days? you can push for a machine replacement, they almost did that with mine, but they were able to source a 720qm in time.
was nice they changed the keyboard (mainly cos they busted it >.>)
if it's been over thirty days then shout at them a bit!
My machine actually caught fire - i was rendering and the GPU decided to tell me no more. (i wasn't in the same room) seemed it was a completely screwed motherboard, which didn't have the thermal shutdown enabled properly. (was fixed in 204 bios for those worried!)
the new one came back with VSOD/GSOD but the vbios fix (chastities one with o/d) fixed that issue so i didn't need to lose production time in another RMA -
yeah it actually has been over 30 days.. ill call em and write them an email...
