How come Asus did not release new batch of gseries laptops this year? Last year was a big boom with asus. But now? Just the upgraded g73 with sandy bridge cpus..
-
They did. Its called the G73SW and the G53SW.
-
-
I don't man. Probably because there is still a demand for these, and they can advance this internals rather than the design. That is my guess.
-
Maybe. Sager is going to release a cool one this year. Why not asus? DAMN.
-
Why change a design a lot of people like?
-
I did not say change, I said how come they didnt release new gseries laptops/
-
They are making money on this G seires why mess with that

It's January. 11 months to release an updated design.
-
Hey All,
I don't work for ASUS so I can't speak for them; but I do work for a different Notebook Manufacturer and I can tell you that when they stumble upon a design that works (sells) they don't change it until they either run out of material or the market (sales) change.
I can tell you that all the current "designs" my company makes right now, are the same design as they were 2 (if not 3) years ago. The only things that have changed are GPU/CPU and Screen sizes.
If it ain't broke - Don't Fix it.

The G73 / G53 design is only a year old, and has some superior qualities, like the system cooling. So why change something that works? Better to just refresh the internals.
-
...more laptops need this design of cooling.....makers would sell more lappy's I think...

Just as an example, the G50/G51 chassis was the same for 2 years, from the G50V released in August 2008 until the G51Jx was discontinued sometime around August 2010. Don't expect a new design too soon - it's only been about a year.
-
I hope they don't update in the near future.
Don't want this beast to feel outdated. -
I hope they make the kb light like AW.
-
-
Well if the G74 series has an express card slot and USB 3.0, I'm gonna be all sadface. That's the only way I see to improve the concept of the G73 series.
-
Yeah. Then add the firewire too.
-
Why would they release a new model when they haven't even gotten this one right yet? Unfortunately when they DO come out with a new model, we can say goodbye to a fix for our keyboards and touchpads.
-
I think this is the real answer.
This year is year 2011. It's been 2 weeks. 2 weeks does not mean Asus is not releasing new models for this year. Asking why Asus didn't release new model this year 2 weeks into this year is about as dumb as asking why a pear tree didn't grow any pears yet in January when it doesn't bear fruit until July/August.
This is how I view the G73 and G53 models of 2010.
This was Asus experiment to attract the laptop gaming community and is something they probably learned a lot from.
1). They learned there is a massive market for gaming laptops for people who don't want idiotic crap all over their notebooks and actually look professional. Matte finish and non-tacky design is wanted by those looking at high end laptops. Personally I still prefer the sleek design of HP EliteBook and Lenovo's W series.
2). They learned the cooling system works. The problem with their past attempts with high end machine is undoubtedly the cooling. Dual fans for better cooling, better design so it's quieter. My past Asus single fan was too loud.
3). They learned the importance of having a proper vBios and hopefully have better quality control on the Bios also.
Once they have resolved and found a gameplan to take what they have learned no doubt they will release new models. They probably don't want to make the same mistake again releasing the G73jh so early with a broken vBios. MSI etc released later with proper working vBios and it worked out.
At least that what I'm hoping. -

Yeah, it's an advantage to us, the G73 owners so that Asus would still spend some time and effort to fix our problems on our beast.
But one thing that I would like Asus to add (aside from making sure all functions and features work, and the laptop is reliable in performance) are the following:
DisplayPort interface (for units that would have GPUs with Eyefinity)
and Raid 0 (for units with more than 1 HDD) -
G73sw is in the horizon, you can order from amazon.com and probably other distributors soon.
it has gtx 460m and new sandybridge processor: intel core i7 630qm priced about 1770$ in the usa
For you guys who don't know about sandybridge is that this is a big, huge improvement really. It beats the crap out of old core i7; check this out here: Mobile Processors - Benchmarklist - Notebookcheck.net Tech
about 25% gain!
if asus was to put 2820qm, damn, that would be great it is a very expensive purchase though. -
So bummed I got a Clarkfield 8 months from Sandy Bridge. lol -
-
Who cares about the CPU on a gaming laptop? The GPU is almost always the bottleneck on gaming laptops.
Though I wouldn't mind the SW Intel HD 3000 internal GPU (saves lots of battery and that internal GPU is a beast!) (assuming the G73SW supports hybrid GPU) -
Also for the fact that you can get the performance of a current extreme edition mobile cpu with less power draw and a lower price tag. -
G73 series beat other units. Maybe they still figuring out how to improve the G73 than producing another batch of G series.
-
I just hope they make a sandy bridge with an ati 5870 or up. The Radeon HD 6950M would work for me. Or perhaps the gtx 470m. I would probably go with the one with less Watt usage for longer battery life.
I wouldn't mind the 460m, but the upgrade to the i7-2720qm processor is way more then sagers model. Is this due to the chipset? -
-
If the design works, there's no reason to change it. This is apparently successful at cooling things. The last thing I want is arbitrary changes for "style".
