I looked in the box and don't see a recovery disk. Did it come with one?

No. You should have been prompted to create recovery disks when you first booted.

There should be a recovery partition unless you removed it. Try hitting F9 (if I remember right) at startup to get to it.

Depending on who you purchased it from they should have offered to make you one.

PM or email me and I will make a few suggestions. If you still have the ability to create them yourself then that solves your problem. However the discs that you make still will not allow a clean install. Its just a direct copy of what you see on your desktop and program files that came on your computer originally.

if you want to format the g73, buy the original install discs from asus. you can find them at the asus e-store for 30 dollars plus shipping.

dont buy the disk...you have a recovery utility in the start menu, that or you can just press F9 to enter recovery and format from there. If ever both of those options are not doable for you, call Asus and BS them about windows not saving settings every time you reboot, happened to me once and it was a corrupt windows installation and because of that i didnt have to pay for the recovery disks.

P.S. If ou cant find the recovery utility, just search AI recovery burner and prepare 4-5 dvds

Not really the best advice I've heard. It's not a good idea to recommend that someone should lie to a manufacturer about their product to get what they want or think they deserve.
