It me again, the problems aren't going away.

You might know me from this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/501878-asus-g73-freezing-bsod.html

    Basically my problem is:
    - The laptop keeps freezing, then a few seconds later it will Blue Screen.

When I am just browsing the net, all the applications will just freeze for about 30 seconds then I get a BSOD.

When I am playing Starcraft 2, in the middle of a game the screen will freeze (makes a stuttering noise) and then 10 seconds later it will BSOD.

The thing is it happens randomly, sometimes it takes like 4-5 hours of use before it will BSOD, other times only a few hours. I sometimes get the rare day where I am on it all day and its fine. But it will always happen, nearly every single day if use it long enough.

It happens on both stock and 10.7 drivers. I am 99% sure its the graphics card, because:
    - Faulty GPU's do this
    - Alot of people have had faulty 5870's with the g73
    - Just before the BSOD, the right side will completely go quiet (I am assuming the GPU is turning off or something).

Or could it be faulty RAM?

So if I return it to the store how do I prove that it is faulty? There is no set of steps where I can replicate the BSOD. Should I just take a video of everytime it freezes and Blue Screens? Is there any tools I can use to prove that my GPU is faulty?

I am desperate to return this to my store, but how do I prove it?

    Cheers.

Sounds like it's your fault tbh. Sounds like you messed up your Windows install.

Its happened from day 1 (about 6 weeks ago). I've formatted it many times to try to get rid of it but the problem never goes away.

How is it my fault =S

I guess you screwed up your Windows from Day 1.

And if it was hardware from Day 1, kinda stupid to keep your notebook for so long. Guessing it's well past the time to return for a replacement by now.

Blaming the G73 for being worst notebook doesn't do any good if it was your decision to keep a notebook that BSOD from Day 1...

Why do you need to prove it too them? Just yell at them for a few minutes saying that uve dne several tests and you have come to the conclusion that it is a hardware fault. If they are a reputable dealer they should fix the problem for you. If they wont do it why dont you contact asus directly?

I didn't reinstall windows until about 10 days after I got the laptop, because it kept crashing. So even with everything stock it still crashed, I doubt it is a software issue.

I mean I don't mod my computer at all, everything I install is official drivers, I don't overclock or anything.

redda2 just over clock your card a little... Perhaps look around for threads that address these issues rather then making a new one. All the info you need for work arounds are already here. People just never look for them.

Have you monitored the temps of either your gpu or cpu? You could be running hot on one of them.

Sounds like what would happen when I still had the creative eax software on mine, I would check to make sure you have untinstalled of it.

I just ran the memtest86 for about 2 hours

    Looks like RAM is OK.

Is there any diagnostic tool I can use to test the GPU?

btw I'm still getting BSOD everyday.

Have you updated to the new bios 211 and vbios from Gary? If not, were you using the stability OC @ 705/1100 that worked for folks prior to the ASUS vBIOS fix?

    RMA

If your machine is broken and you don't know how to fix it then this is your only option. Your machine would have been fixed and returned by now, but you've decided to keep a BSOD machine for months now.

I'm still betting this is a software issue. The interesting thing is that the OP didn't say what was listed as the BSOD reason... there is usually SOME explanation on the actual screen that says what happened.

BSOD is almost ALWAYS a user fault. If his memtest says ok, then it's more likely software.

Also I think we are only getting half the story on this one.

And if he did RMA it, hehe, the tech will have fun replacing everything as they will have a tough time figureing out what is the problem with so little details given. Probably means a month of RMA. I get BSOD... and?

I never ran Memtest, but does that RAM say DDR3-1423? Are you overclocked? I thought it was 1333 ram, if you are overclocked, restore factory settings in the bios.
